Working from home

I'm curious as to how common working from home is getting?

It's probadly more suited to office work where all you need is a computer and phone. In my work the policy is that I've to attend the office a minimum of 1 day a week, though I go in much more. It suits me to work from home as I've an hour and 30 mins commute each way. Our building is at capacity so it suits my employers not to have everyone in the office at the same time.

Are more employers embracing working from home? And if so is it because of better technology and promoting a work life balance, or being a cynic, that their overheads are reduced by not having desk space for each and every every worker?

I think it's a great idea. Stress of and time spent commuting.

Lots of communication between staff can still happen with technology these days. Check out Skype for business (used to be called Lync) if your a manager or business owner.

    More companies should facilitate it.

Everyone I deal with in my work is in the US, so going into work each day isnt nessesary, but I'm only 20 minutes away so go in 3 out of 5 days.
I would need to set myself up a proper office at home if I was to work 5 days a week from home, my current setup is a bit of a mess.
I think my works policy is to come in minimum 1 day a month, but that's to facilitate your workstation updates.
