    Cash buyer and discounts.

Hi all. Am looking at a new VW Tiguan 172 plate. Have a 07 Jetta to trade in but even though it is a good car with low mileage, NCT, pristine condition and full service history, we are being offered just north of 3,000. These cars are selling for 5,000 on car zone. I understand that dealers need to cover themselves but I think they are having a laugh at this money. They don't want the car, and thats fine. We can move it on ourselves.

If I were to sell the Jetta privately, how much of a discount should I expect on the new Tiguan with an RRP of €33,500.

10 year old Jettas may not be selling for 5k though, asking 5k and getting 5k are two completely different things. Also a main dealer is not going to resell a 10 year old car on their forecourt, it's simply too old to them and would cost them too much in terms of warranty, so they sell them onto the trade (small dealers) who can resell them for a smaller margin.

Ah yea, I understand that. I will sell it privately and avail of the discount with the dealer on the new car. 7 to 10% seems to be consensus on other threads. At that rate, I would get the new car for 31,000 odd(33,500 - 2350ish)

Even if I got €3000 on the open market for the Jetta, I'm doing well. In effect, the dealer is giving me nothing for the Jetta.

I'm not sure that they're discounting the Tiguan as heavily as 10%. Might be wrong but it's a new model and they're selling well.

If I got to 7% I'd be a happy camper. Just thought I'd ask the question to see if anyone else had been shopping for the same car as a cash buyer.

You're always better off buying straight unless you're talking about a scrappage offer where you have to trade something in.

Keep in mind Skoda are launching a smaller SUV than the Kodiaq called the Karoq in a few months.

Going to Skoda dealer on Monday. We have our purchase narrowed down to the Tiguan and Kodiaq

    Is the Skoda much bigger?

It's a good 9" longer. Half of that is in the wheelbase and the rear in the overhang

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

There is a very good chance that the Irish dealers allocation of the Kodiaq for this year has already been reached.

Did you look at the Seat Ateca? It shares most of it's DNA with the Tiguan but is a bit cheaper. Might be a bit more scope for discount too.

Yea, the Skoda dealer told me that he would not be able to deliver me a Kodiaq until October minimum.

Finally got a 3,200 discount on a Tiguan Comfortline €35,300 with the 171 Innovation pack.

Did a deal today, finally, after visiting 3 dealers. Hoping to place an order on Monday. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this.....:D

Looks nice and at least it's not another white one. Saw a maroon one yesterday, very underwhelming.

Every motorist looking to buy and has a 6/7 year old or older car to sell should follow above.

Main dealers are not interested in older cars and will effectively charge a facilitation fee for taking the trade-in. They'll give a "trade price", less a few hundred for the hassle and then add the cash price discount.

If you don't want hassle of selling privately, sell at auction. Simply drop the car to merlin or wilsons or whatever car auction place near you, pay the €75-€100 fee and a week later the cash is in your account less their commission.

For the op, any reason you didn't look at the new mazda cx5?

Yea, I'm with you on the white. Is it because they are €605 cheaper as non metallic I wonder. Jesus, if you are going to lash out €35k on a car, go the extra few bob to get the metallic. But each to their own I suppose.

We had been looking at the Iridium Grey and the Black. The black looked lovely as there is a little black in the alloys, they complemented each other quite well along with the slight tint in the rear windows. Looked well. But I walked into the dealership yesterday morning on my way to Cork and they had a Titanium Beige in the showroom. The beige is very understated, more silver than beige. Looks well.

Havent bought a new car in 15 odd years. Looking forward to July!

Personally, I prefer the lines of the Tiguan. I felt the Mazda, while a beautiful car, was too curvy for me. If you know what I mean. Also, the 5.9% interest rate on the Mazda vs VW's 0% interest was a no-brainer for me.

Also, the VW website have a very good car configurator application. Mazda's one is rubbish. I had the Tiguan built dozens of times before I drove one. I was impressed with the car from the website experience, I was blown away when I drove it. Its the little things....

The wheels in the picture I posted are not the wheels that will be on my one. I lifted that picture from the net.

0% interest + over 3k discount? You did very well.

On looks, I'm opposite - love the lines of the cx5, wish there was a cx7. :-)

Well the 0% is a VW initiative. Buy a Comfortline and you get 0%. We had been looking at a Highline Passat that also comes with 0% but the Tiguan won out in the end.

I was fairly straight forward with the dealers. I told them I didn't need to be sold a car, that decision was already made. I told them I was giving them the chance to be the ones to do the deal by getting me into the car at the lowest possible price. First dealer came in much higher than the other two. Third one came in the the lowest price for the very same car the others quoted so he wins.

Having said all that, I do love the large grille on the Mazdas.

I love my new white Tiguan. I did not buy it because it was cheaper, I bought it because I think it's the best colour in it. Nothing to do with saving 600 euro. I had narrowed it down to the Atlantic blue (which is really striking especially with r line ) or the iridium grey or white and I went with the white. Will also have no problem with resale.

    Happy New Car!

Lucky you! Look, each to their own. The whites don't appeal to me. Perhaps the couour I'm getting doesn't appeal to you.

    Are you enjoying the car?

How is it on fuel? Did you get the 115BHP or the 150BHP?

Would not be a beige fan, though the only two colours I really did not like in it were a very dark brown and that maroon colour. There was an orange colour I liked, but would not buy, would date very quickly.

I have 115 bhp, I came from a petrol 1.4 125 bhp car so initially I did feel it was very slow.

Used to it now and love it. There's such a luxurious feel about it. The sunroof is great, really lets light flood into the car when the blind is opened. you will love it. Comfort line has everything you need, it's a really comfortable drive. Coming from a car, you will aporeciate the height.

I'm still getting used to the keyless entry, keep leaving keys in the car when I get out. Only thing I miss is reversing camera.

Fuel wise, I never count, I put 64 in every two weeks or so, i do approx 15-20000kms per year.

    That costs €1600 too IIRC.

10BHP doesnt sound like a lot, but the Tiguan is a big car. I couldn't justify the extra €1700 for the 150BHP. I don't need it so.....

We have previously had a Renault Scenic so it will be nice to have the visibility again.

Apparently the 172 new builds in Comfortline have the camera as standard.

.So, €30 odd quid per week for average driving. Not so bad...

    .

10bhp, switch from petrol back to diesel plus a much heavier vehicle - could really feel the difference, especially taking off from the lights.

Ok. Deal done, deposit paid and car ordered!!!!

Went for the Tungsten Silver after. Saw one this morning when we went in to place the order. Prefer it to the Beige. Hoping to have it for start of July. More likely though to be mid/late July. Unless there are a few on the way in in the trim level and colour I've ordered.

Dealer tried to entice me to go for the upholstery and paint sealant. Costs €299. Apparently they apply the product for you and it keeps the paint job shiny for longer, protects the upholstery from spillages and comes with a bag that contains a collection of after care treatments. Is this a gimmick or would it be worth the spend. Anyone had it done?

Reading about it online. €300 seems very steep for what you are getting. Possibly buy the products yourself for €50 odd, so they are charging €250 for the application of the product. Autoglym seems not to be the market leader so not so sure about this one.

(Just checked prices online and you'd get the interior and exterior product kits for €49.80

It's a waste of money and dealers have a hefty markup on that price too. You are better off bringing it to a proper professional detailer for that sort of money. Your car will thank you for it too.

What delivery timescale did you get?
Mrs Beeps ordered a Tungsten Silver also a few weeks ago, delivery hopefully mid Sept with factory summer shut downs.

She got a good deal in the end and went with the local garage, who went the extra few steps to keep the business local.

She opted for the comfortline with the 171 upgrade pack and a few extras thrown in, I took both the 115 and 150 for spins and while the 115 is fine it's quite hilly where we live and you really have to work the gears. So I convinced she to go up to the 150.

I have been assured of a mid July delivery. They should have definite date for me next week but it will be in mid July.

I wanted to keep the cost down as low as I could manage couldn't justify the price so the 115 will be just fine. Did you get the 172 technology pack? We are getting the panoramic sunroof, keyless go, reversing camera and park assist.

Mix some fabric cleaner (washing machine powder/tablet ) up with some warm water and work it in with a microfiber cloth.
then use a damp cloth (no washing powder) to mop it up.
will be perfect but you gotta do the whole seat panel.

My Dad is looking at a new 2.0L DSG R Line Tiguan. The dealer is giving him €3,500 more for his current car than two other dealers against the same car.

Is the R Line worth the extra over the standard Highline?

The dealer is giving him €17,500 for his own (€3,500 cheque back, and the rest as the 30% deposit).

I'm thinking he's better off taking it on PCP for the three years and save the 5% interest (6.9% - 1.9%) and then either trade it in or buy it out in the future.

The other option he was considering is trading his own and adding €10k and borrowing the balance at the 6.9%.

    Any thoughts on the above?

R Line kit is really down to personal preference, it makes the shape more sporty so it really depends on whether your dad is into that. How to pay for it will require doing some maths on the interest, etc and don't forget any hidden costs associated with the method of payment.

What you ideally want with PCP is a low initial deposit, low interest rate over the 3 years and a low GFMV so that if he decides to go PCP again in 3 years that the difference between the trade-in value and GFMV is his deposit (equity) for another car while retaining similar monthly repayments. Or if he prefers to buy the first car out then use regular finance or loan to pay back the GFMV.

The GMFV for year three was €15000 or there abouts, he only drives about 10000kms a year so he won't hit the milage cap.

I looked at it financing €19,500 on PCP (selling price - deposit - GMFV) and Credit Union car loan for three years.

PCP had a monthly payment of €526 and Credit Union loan was €595. To bring the Credit Union loan drawdown down to a similar amount to the PCP option he said he'd top up the balance of his own money (Trade €17,500 + Cheque €10,000 + Loan)

Seems a big saving on monthlies when looking at that.

The Tiguan he is looking at is just shy of €47k I think. If he goes PCP the dealer will be giving him a cheque for €3,500 back and I've suggested he adds this to his €10,000 and buy the Tiguan out at the end of year 3 with a small top up (or try negotiate a discount).

The mileage cap really only comes into play if he has to hand the car back and walk away.
