missing flights!

I'm sitting here at a departure gate for a flight and 2 groups, totalling 6 people have missed there flight to Newcastle.
They arrived 5 minutes after departure time and wondering what happened and why they can't board.

Is it just me who has no sympathy for them?

Air lingus staff member says they were all paged 4 times.

    Why are people so stupid?
What's on in Newcastle this weekend?

FR train people to read departure as gate opens. Then when they fly EI they get caught out.

I have sympathy for people who arrive at the check in desk 59 mins before departure and are not allowed to church in for their short haul flight.
Not much sympathy after that unless long security queue?

I arrived at 5 pm, went through security, had a coffee and sandwich and was still at my gate in 40 minutes.
    Btw. It's a T2 departure with AL.
The first group had their bags unloaded, they obviously checked in on time.

My only sympathy would be with other passengers on the plane if they have to take off their luggage from the plane and delay everyone else.

Some people just have no perception of time I find. And these are usually the people that miss flights etc..

I once arrived in Stansted at 9:30am and missed a flight leaving at 6pm.

You say How are people so stupid they missed their flight? Is there any empathy from people on boards.ie. . The reality is that mere mortals miss flights due to traffic build up not paying attention to the time on their ticket other reasons. Some of us make errors in life others believe they never do and judge others. I'm sure they are feeling bad enough about it . Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Emotional intelligence is dead and gone it's with de Valera in the grave:) the essence of emotional intelligence is understanding how others are feeling even if you don't agree with their actions.

But the people in the OP are already in the airport. No sympathy what-so-ever from me.

It's pretty crap missing a flight not least because you've to pay fair whack to get on another flight the same day and you feel like a jackass. I nearly missed a 6am flight on Christmas Eve - I ran from security screening to the gate with barely 60seconds to spare, I was the last person on the plane and they literally shut the door behind me. My bag had to go on separate flight. It was all a bit Home Alone 2.

You learn from such mistakes (or at least you should).

I should have empathy for people too stupid to understand that the big hand on 6 and the little hand on 1 means they missed their flight 5 minutes ago. Why exactly should I have empathy, if I missed a flight Id expect people to call me an idiot and I'd agree with them.

I have empathy for the people whos flight is now delayed because they have to get the bags off the plane, those people arrived on time and are now delayed by morons.

You are responsible for your own actions and missing a scheduled flight is no one's fault but your own.

I've arrived 50 mins before a short haul with luggage - not a problem. Flight was at 2000, I though it was 2015.

There is no excuse about not checking in - can do it on a phone so easily now and get a print out if needed

There are some people who will be late for their own funeral i'ts just a bad habit.

And another thing that gets me is people going to the loo on short haul flights. Was on a short haul flight during the week the plane had no sooner taken off when a woman who was sitting on the inside seat wanted out and we had to stand up for her to pass. 5 mins later we were standing again to let her in.
And if that wasn't enough 10 mins before landing she did the very same thing. I understand people may have medical problems in that area but I am sure if they go before they board the plane they could last 50 mins

You had to stand up TWICE, you poor thing, I hope you are getting the professional help you deserve.
She went twice on 30 minutes, safe to say it was a necessity for her and she didn't need you tutting or rolling eyes over it.

No, no, no! You do't understand! The poster had to stand up FOUR whole times, twice for each trip to the toilet. I mean how can you honestly think that's reasonable and not excessive? :P :pac:

Seriously though, while this might be a very minor irritation at the most, I don't see how it can be equated to the carry on of being late for and likely delaying the flight in the OP.

You'd be surprised at the impact some medical conditions can have. As well as that, on top of a condition some of it can be anxiety too - you're not guaranteed that you'll get off the plane exactly when you should - you could be sitting on the ground in the airport for an hour with the fasten seatbelt sign still on if there's a delay. So better safe than very very sorry. I know this is a big thing for my own mother.
