Had a similar issue before in Cork with a dealer just outside the city.

There's no law forcing anyone or a business to sell to another person. The dealer obviously doesn't want your business so even if you force a sale what type of after sales service do you expect.

Thats the thing if somebody cant return a call to say x is not for sale then thats a mark of there operation and service
I spotted gunk under the oil filler cap and then wanted a mechanic to view it for me but the dealer wouldnt get back to me.
Car is arsed for all i know

Actually there is... Anty discrimination laws say that once you offer service or goods to the public, you cannot refuse that service to anyone.

The car in question is overpriced as per the link you provided. Alarms bells should be ringing for you, just move on.

There are 9 reasons that you can't use, if you are stupid enough to use one of them you deserve what they get.

You can discriminate as much as you like as long as it's not one of the 9 protected grounds.

Are you lucky you found now what you would be dealing with rather than later when you actually have to go back to him with a problem.

Just move on, plenty out there who will be delighted to sell to you.

My company does it to difficult customers all the time. We don't want their business.

Think about it in a number of circumstances. Your statement cannot be correct. Insurance is an obvious one

I would just get on with the business of buying a car elsewhere if you need one.

Condensation buildup from lots of shorts journeys can cause gunk which resembles a blown head gasket but you were right to walk if the seller cant be arsed to reply/wouldnt let someone take a look over it to be sure

I'd say you've had a lucky escape OP. You found out now what he is like to deal with, rather than after any 'sale'. Run a mile from the likes of him, he appears to either know the car is dodgy - or perhaps car sales isnt his 'true business'..if you catch my drift ..so its not like he's depending on car sales alone for his income!

Run and dont look back. His loss.

Seems like you don't want to buy the car. Dealer's not an idiot.

I've had plenty of customers that I judged to be more hassle than they were worth, almost exclusively due to their personality and how they acted.

I have little doubt that they went away telling all their friends that we were cowboys.

??? Must be if he wouldnt allow a mechanic to look over the car pre agreement to deposit but you make the assumptions all day long if you like.;)

Wow a salesman with a conscience
    Pull the other one,
If its business he's looking for he's a prime example of not to do business with on purely the way he acted
If the cars alright let it be checked.
If not then dont blame somebody else for finding a lemon.

Thanks lads for all the replies
I picked up a different octavia from a dealer who was delighted to do business with me and stands over his sales.
That other thing can stay in his graveyard gathering daisys.:D

That was my gut instinct reading the OP.

Not saying OP is the same by any means but there's plenty of people that you can tell from ten paces will be more of a pain the back door to deal with in the future than their sale will ever be worth.

I don't work in sales, and you continue to remind me of certain customers.

Why would he bother to let your mechanic take a look at it if he knew what the outcome would be? Pretty smart on his behalf.

He knows well that you won't buy the car so why would he waste the time entertaining you? Some sucker will end up buying it instead.

Can't you just let it go and move on. Seems like there's only one idiot between the pair of you.
