Family holiday North East USA

My 8 yo daughter would really like to go to the US to experience it... too much youtube.. When I say experience I mean - shopping and food...

I think NYC would be nice to visit as well.

Last time I was in US was in 2009 and 1€ was like $1.50/1.60, it is a bit different now and I can also see hotel prices went up quite a bit since then.
I presume other items like meals and shopping have become equally more expensive ?

So, I am about to propose that we ditch the yearly Spain June holiday and replace with a 10-12 days holiday to US in August.

Norwegian Air fares to US (some shady airports in the North East) are almost comparable to high season fares to Spain.

I will rent a car in US so don't care too much where exactly I land.

So far I can see to do 2-3 days of shopping and light sightseeing in NYC and, 2 days of travel, so I was thinking of finding a week somewhere in a resort.

Any kid friendly places (pools/kids activities and generally nice for the parents) in the wider North East area ?

Weather would be nice enough towards end of August ?
What to expect to pay these days for lunch or dinner for 3 ? No real drinking..

Budget for this excl flights is around €2500

That time of year upstate New York is spectacular... Vermont etc.

You would drive from New York to the like of lake placid in a day or so ...

Thanks, that hadn't crossed my mind or searches yet. Will definitely look into this further.. If you have been there, any accommodation you would recommend ?
