Hi I recently completed the green cert and need advice re entitlements etc.Is it better to have my own herd number or go joint with my father and what implications are involved?
He has approx 50 hectares and it's a beef enterprise.I have a full time job and he is of retirement age.
    Any advice welcome please.

    Hi.
From a personal point of view, I split our system, meaning I set up my own herd number as a young trained farmer and successfully applied to the national reserve for entitlements. My dad who is partial retired but keeps some steers was able to stack up his entilements in 2015 so it freed up part of our 70ha for me to claim on.

Be advised, There's a bit more administration. 2 bord Bia audits, 2 basic payment applications, two financial returns, separated farm facilities and machinery, (this is still a grey area with the dept there's a bit of crossover here). On top of that, I'm in GLAS.

Depending on how your 50ha is laid out, you technically need seperate entrances for separate farmers. I read this in the dept T&C.

The advantage is that dad kept his basic payment more or less the same and I got a full one.
