Strange one here, i have a car advertised on adverts & donedeal, but i came across it today on cbg. I received a text from them a few days ago asking me to advertise with them 'with 1 click' but i did not reply.

    Has this happened anyone else?

Not trying to give a smart ass answer but I'd be ringing them up asking the same question. Or is it possible that adverts.ie and cbg.ie have some sort of connection?

Would that not be illegal to copy content from a site for that purpose whether you asked the person who placed the ad for permission or not?

Are the Adverts & Donedeal watermarks still on the photos?

I would imagine it is illegal, I'm not concerned as it benefits me to have the car advertised there for free.
No watermarks on the pictures, but they are easily removed.

Had a quick look and my car is advertised there too but I didn't sign up for their site. I've advertised mine on donedeal, carzone, and carsireland.

It's gas because they had an ad on TV taking the mick out of Donedeal, if they are now taking content from Donedeal it makes them look idiotic...

I wonder how many actual paying ads they have? I remember using them years ago when it was an actual magazine & they charged a pretty penny in them days!

CBG used to be big , but its hard to believe its still surviving these days. carzone and carsireland are the main ones.

There have been adds put on DoneDeal for trailers etc by thieves who would steal it after agreeing to meet with a prospective buyer. Obviously not the case here but if you see something belonging to you up for sale it could be a possibility

They all feed from the same place and share info, including CBG. I'm fairly sure they are ultimately owned by the AutoTrader group. Ireland really only has two data depositories for second hand cars: DoneDeal and CarZone. Adverts, to my knowledge, is independent of both but then again, the data is valuable so perhaps Distilled Media sell some?

I advertised my car on DoneDeal and Carzone last week and just received a text from 'CBG.IE' saying I should advertise with them to sell my car faster. Did a search here as I thought this was a bit unusual and, sure enough, my car is already on the CBG website. The details and pictures have been taken from Carzone (I used a slightly different description). I just had a look at their website and noticed it's free to advertise for private sellers.

Are CBG and Carzone owned by the same company?

Wonder could you sue them for using your photos without your permission?

so irish want to sue for everything - first thing most people think of.

They want to list as many cars as possible, so they become the page to go to.

It is not. Would indexing your ad in Google be illegal as well (and I am pretty sure it is there - just pick an ad and paste it in google search. Google knows about it).

I did not see any DoneDeal watermarks ever. Their pictures are so small that they are close to useless anyway. But watermarks removal is complex and difficult, unless we use some AI to do it.

Wonder is someone setup a website SellGaffs.ie in the morning and harvested the entire DAFT and MyHome.ie listings would there be any legal action taken by the companies in question, I would say yes.

Well I haven't incurred any damages so not sure what I would stand to gain from suing them, if anything they're assisting in the sale of my car and expecting nothing in return from me. I was just wondering if they got the pictures and details from the Carzone ad as part of an agreement they have (ie. "advertise on Carzone and your ad is also listed on CBG for free") or have they taken them without permission. I'm guessing (hoping) the former.

It would - but that's against T&C of the site. They usually have a clause that prohibits automatic processing.

Technically it is possible to do it without getting the pictures from anyone. They might be within original service servers and it is the client that is getting them.

It's against the terms of Donedeal for their ads to be copied/scalped...

That's a bit extreme... Nevertheless CBG seems much nicer than DD, pictures are decent size too.

Carzone, Driving.ie and Autotrader.ie are all owned by one company - Auto Trader Group.
    DoneDeal owns Adverts.ie now.
CarsIreland domain is owned by Digital Odyssey, CBG is owned by Duiker Limited, but I cannot find anything about that enterprise...

But by the looks of the push of CBG now, they seem to be acquired recently and someone is pumping a bit of cash into it.

The issue with any kind of marketplace website is that you need two types of visitors: sellers and buyers. It looks like they're seeding the site with sellers in order to attract more buyers.

Given the complaints about DoneDeal raising their ad prices recently, I'd say the vast majority of sellers won't complain about their car being listed for free on CBG.
