Do DCC Need Planning Permission for Corporation House Extension?

    Hello,

DCC are doing a renovation of a terrace house on my street. Its a double extension which will leave 4sq meter of yard left which I thought meant they need planning permission.

They have started work but no planning notice went up to inform the neighbours and I cant find anything online.

Are they exempt as DCC would juts be giving permission to themselves? I would have thought a notice even if it would be passed would be the way to do it so the neighbours know whats going up

    Thanks,

    Bob!

It requires planning unless they go through the part 8 process but even that required advertisements and I would have thought that it would be too exhaustive for a residential extension.

Are you 100% sure it's a DCC house.
Are you 100% sure there's no planning.

If you want to PM me the address I'll check it out.

Any project costing more than 126k (may have increased) has to go through the Part 8 process with some exemptions, ie doesn't matter the cost, has to have a Part 8. One of these is

Construction or erection of a house

My reading is an extension, which wouldn't be exempt under Section 5, that costs under 126k doesn't need a Part 8 or any other process. (Subject to some other environmental considerations).

That said I regularly see extensions advertised as part 8 in certain local authority areas, that from the description should not cost over the threshold. They may also interpret the 'construction or erection of a house' differently.

Yeah, I was talking to the DCC guy the other day.

I never saw any notice up in the window.

I'm fine with the extension but I was just wondering for neighbours who's light might get blocked or maybe its a new DCC process to flip these houses as quick as they can and get families into them without having to get PP.

Thanks for the information so far,

    Bob.
