Search for a 520D has boiled down to UK V Irish, both will cost around €25k.

Which would you go for, UK better spec with higher mileage and shorter warranty, or Irish lesser spec with lower mileage and longer warranty?

    Irish
    2014 BMW 520D Auto
    2 year BMW warranty
    40,000km
    SE Model
    €26K

    UK
    2014 BMW 520D auto
    1 year BMW warranty
    100,000km
Luxury Model (18", Professional media (big screen), various spec enhancements)
    €26K

    UK or Irish 21 votes

Assuming the Irish one is a bmw approved used car I'd get that one. You can retrofit the pro nav if you really want it. I assume they both are same condition with full BMW service history....

BTW also I'd only buy an msport TBH.

Other than the pro nav there's nothing there to get excited about tbh.

Get a 530d or a 640d (there starting to come in the money from UK).

As opposed to poster above, not being an msport wouldn't bother me in the slightest, give me a bigger tv screen or massage seats any day over msport badge.

I'd go UK (I did) just to get a higher spec.

Steering wheel, exterior lighting and chrome pac, pro nav. Added together it's a nicer car. The sports wheel is the msport without the badge. Exterior lighting and chrome lifts it over 99% of 5 series he'll park beside.

Not as nice as an msport with pro nav IMO - I don't like loads of chrome on the f10, shadowline much nicer.

Don't those prices even look right?
I would have thought you'd have got a 151in the uk from the price of a 14 model here.

You will if buying directly from the uk yourself but a dealer will price the car similarly to an irish model of the same age.

The 1 year warranty for the British car; is that for use in Britain only or all over Europe?

If it's Britain only, is NI included?

I believe the UK warranty will be honored in Ireland.

    Cool.
I know manufacturer warranties are supposed to be EU wide but individual countries may have their own.
My 2 year warranty for the 2009 520d I bought a year ago is only applicable in Ireland. It's offered by BMW Irl as opposed to BMW AG.

(I'm probably going to have to replace my turbo so I'm glad I have the warranty (which was taken principally with the chain issue in mind))

Say on the Ireland bmw approved car... I was looking at one for 28k ish on a pcp (142 reg).... no trade in...what kind of deal should I be pushing for on the cost of the car .. would it be unreasonable to expect a grand off that price ?

The run flat tyres used to make the ride very hard on Irish roads, is that still the case I wonder?

No. In the SE with standard suspension the car is very comfortable. Not so much with Msport spec (stiffer suspension) but not as barge like to handle.

It would be worth getting the vin code from both to see what engine variant it is. The new B47 replaced N47 in June 14 I believe. More economical and bit more torque too, plus that chain issue won't happen (although in theory it should not happen with the 14 n47 either).

The LCI was around September 2013, would this not have had the newer B47 from that date?

Not unreasonable at all IMO, it's a 3.5% discount but remember that decision will have to come from the organ grinder, not the monkey... so make an offer €500 less than you are really willing to pay to give them a little bit to come back at you with. Make sure they know you are a serious buyer. If offer is not accepted straight away be firm, go home and wait for the phone call. Good luck.

Those engines were at least a year away at that stage.

As was said above, the lci still had n47 engine until june 14 when the b47 replaced them. If the irish car is 142 then it should have b47. Really though you should get vin code, for me it would be an important point in which car to chose.

My 141 520d has the newer B47 engine, mid 2014 is the build date for the switch over to the B47 engine in the UK but not sure about here. N47 engine will be listed as 184bhp whereas the B47 will be listed as 190bhp. Performance wise there is not a huge difference between both, B47 has a bit more low end grunt but the F10 is a bit heavy car so it's not going to win any races with a 4 cylinder engine.

This is true and also the way the BMW warranty works is you can have your car repaired anywhere, even in a non BMW garage or in a different country. Then you present it with receipt to BMW and they reimburse you.

BMW Ireland is a subsidiary of BMW UK.
