I recieved an email from Electric Ireland yesterday. Quoted text from the email below

"From €4,480 incl. VAT, Electric Ireland customers can avail of:

Interest free payments, spread over 36 months

    6-panel array

Save over €200* a year on your electricity bills

Solar Energy monitoring app free for 6 months, €5 per month thereafter

A diverter can be added at an additional cost of €510 incl. VAT. A diverter can automatically heat your water with any excess electricity generated. "

No mention of them purchasing exported energy-
Savings of over €200 against an install cost (incl Diverter) of ~€5000.
Monitoring App cost of €5 per month.

Its great that they will finance it for you at 0% interest but to me this doesnt add up in any way shape or form without them buying the exported energy.

    Any opinions ?

Im a novice, so perhaps im nieve, but if i was electric ireland, id be a bit embarrassed to publish figures showing a 25yr payback for solar and pushi g it as if it was a good deal.

Also, a fiver a month for an app....ffs where are they going. So the 200 euro saving is reduced by over 25% when you have to pay for the app.

This is an advertisement of how not to do solar pv ?

In my own mind i am just wondering are they laying the groundwork for when they hope a government backed PV tariff comes into play. To be fair a financed option with feed-in tarriff will be tempting to people, even if you were to get a system cheaper elsewhere.

...even if you were to get a system cheaper elsewhere.
And you would. Hardware for a typical 6 panel system (which is their offer) is about €1700. Their price installed is €3950 plus VAT.

I also have to say that ESB has had its jack-boot on the neck of those working in the renewable energy industry for decades. I find it sickening that as solar becomes trendy, they now want a piece of the action.
