I've known 'guests' to be charged for day after bbqs, but at least they'd been to the wedding and knew in advance there was an additional cost. Still bad form imo though.

Really? God thankfully I have never experienced that. I remember going to a next day BBQ and I couldn't genuinely make wedding the day before. I was welcomed with a fridge full of free beer and a dj in a marquee.

I went to a second day dinner. We went to the races first, paid for by ourselves, and we had been advised when booking the hotel to get the 2 night bed and breakfast with one dinner. Thought it was genius. Wedding had about 200 and second day had 50. I thought it was very clever. The couple were upfront about it and it was optional.

    Where did this happen?

We're having a BYOB BBQ the second day, there will be some refreshments but if you want to drink more than one or two just pop to the off licence and bring along a 6 pack etc. Kinda how you would do it at a normal BBQ?

In the UK, it was a mumsnet thread.

We had a second day thing which my parents hosted in their home, mainly for relatives and a few friends came too. I have been at second day BBQs, not at a cost to us though. People who see their guests as a means of funding the wedding they want are few and far between thankfully, but I have heard a lot of 'cover your costs from your cash gifts' stories online.

I think half those mumsnet threads are made up.

Absolutely. In fact I would say it's more than half. I enjoy some of them, even when they are obvious trolls. :D

Wish someone else would verify that story because I want to know if it's true!

Probably not. Mumsnet is troll city particularly at the moment.

Yeah there's been a fair few mumsnet stories that made it into the media in the last year or so, and I reckon a lot of what's been posted there lately is people posting stuff in the hopes that the Daily Mail or one of the other rags picks it up.

Was invited to a BBQ the day after a wedding at a cost of 20euro (just for food). Expensive BBQ in my opinion, we didn't bother going. It was explained beforehand alright and I assume we had the option of going and not eating.

    Was that at a venue?
I hope they weren't crass enough to charge for a BBQ at home?

No drinks included. Just 20 Euro for the food. Buy your own drink.

The venue must have had a price pp but 20e is a bit steep.
The b+g could have foregone the food and just sent out a meet for drinks invite.
