Eir connection keeps dropping

Friday night and the preceding months were fine. Ever since Saturday the connection has been unreliable. I just don't know why and I've tried everything at this stage. I don't have Eir TV. I've tried turning off certain wireless devices in case they were causing the problem. I've rang Eir support twice and factory reset the modem as they advised. I also disconnected the phone handset just in case it was causing the trouble. I have the F2000 modem.

It's grand when doing ordinary surfing but if I try to watch a YouTube vid or stream a match then it just drops.

I have absolutely no idea why this has started happening seemingly out of the blue. So so frustrating and stressful.

It's dropped and reconnected every two minutes for the past hour on me. F1000 here.

  • I was using the 2.4Ghz band exclusively with my F2000 for months. Had the 5Ghz band completely disabled. All of a sudden at the start of the month the internet and network kept failing.

I enabled the 5G band and t the moment I have everything that's near the router on 5G and it's all good again. Not much good for the stuff upstairs though as I have to use 2.4G for them and it's still crashing and bringing the 5G down as well.

I reckon the modem is ****ed but according to Eir's tech support there's no errors. I'd give my right arm for someone knowledgeable that I could speak to in person. This telephone support is garbage.

So in summary the 5G band is perfect but the 2.4G drops when I do any heavy lifting with it like streaming HD video.

Unless you're out in the bog thats expected.

    Wifi
    Next doors wifi
    Next next doors wifi
    Bluetooth
    Microwaves
    Baby Monitors
    Walkie Talkies
    Wireless Mice
    Home alarm sensors
    Wifi boosters
    etc
    etc

Are all on 2.4Ghz. If you live in an apartment especially its a dead band. Just too congested. 5Ghz will be in a couple years too thanks to Eero and co.

  • Hi ED E! Yeah but the funny thing is I was happy as larry for ages until the fateful day of May 6th.

    Thats the thing, its unregulated.

It could be that your unit crapped out that day, but its just as likely somebody nearby(if said exist) brought home a new device thats doing the wifi equivalent of throwing a 24/7 house party.

    Connected via ethernet cable.

Lots of people reporting issues with the 2.4GHz band dropping on the F2000. Me for one. It just disappears every now and then.

The 5GHz works fine but as someone said there are range issues and older devices don't support it.

No known cure that I'm aware of. I use a second router for wifi so I just used 2.4 on that

Mine also drops from time to time. I have the F2000 on FTTH. I even bought some homeplugs and connect through there instead of wifi but still get a few drops a day.

I did contact Eir a couple of times, they did a few tests and say everything seems to be fine from what they can see?

Yeah, wifi drops out here occasionally too. Such a shame they've given us a lemon of a router to go with such a great service.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.
