Redundancy and JB question

Would be grateful if someone could clarify. For someone who received a redundancy package of 63K, I understand there is a 3 week disqualification for this amount for JB, however does the claimant still have to wait 9 weeks to receive a first payment? Many thanks

Yes you could be waiting anything from 3-10 weeks depending on the part of the country you are in. The payments will be backdated to when they were due so you won't lose out.

Thanks, a friend was advised that a three week disqualification applied which is fine but letter received seemed to state that anyone over 50K by law would also not actually receive a first payment for 9 weeks - not sure if it's confusion with the wording, they will check with local office.

Would be no reason at all for it to take 9 weeks. Straightforward one like that could be awarded on the spot - the suspension put in on the system and it would go into payment as soon as the 3 weeks is up. Just to note too that the 3 weeks would be counted as time on JB, so if you were entitled to 9 months, you'd only be paid for 8 months and a week

This is never explained properly to applicants.
They assume that they will still get 9 months JSB, just 9 weeks later.

I'm not sure all the staff understand it either. I'd say a lot of the time it doesn't actually happen. I suppose if it wasn't that way, then there wouldn't actually be any penalty other than the delay. The customer would still get the full 9 months - just a little bit later.
