Hey guys im in need of some advice. I have my 2008 vw golf gt sport 1.4 tsi 140bhp bmy engine. It has 85k miles/had timing chain done at the end of 2015 at 57k. Engine managment light came on other day and slow speed. Code p000a. Camshaft position slow response. So replaced camshaft sensor and cleared codes. It returned later on that day with new code. P3008 manufacturer control/ so after a bit of reading it relates to camshaft position sensor so replaced again ith new o ring seal and same again. So i fear the dreaded timing chain issue now. If my chain is stretched slightly taking into considering the car still drives perfect and no rattles or bangs. Noises from cold etc. Just engine managent light keeps coming back. Is it possible to just change tensioner and a good oil service. Is this possible to throw the cam signal back in sync and stop throwing up codes? Any help aprreciated thnks in advance. OLDSKOOL 85

Have you had any update with this? I (think) I have a stretched chain issue too.

Different car though. It's a Merc W203 c200k kompressor with a nasty chain rattle on some cold start ups. Problem is the chain and tensioner was done abut 20k km ago. I have no performance issues though. Have you taken off the rocker cover to see is there any slack? You will prob need a new gasket, even if your looking.

Hey Lekrub have needed the car more over the past few weeks so i havnt took the rocker off or delphed any deeper into the issue. As i said before the performance of the car itself is not affected so hasnt been an issue other than check light returning. Now with p000a again. Which is cam shaft position sensor. Talking to a mechanic friend and after trying 2 different sensors have came tobrealise that will have to replace the chain, tensioner and guides at a cost of around 800euro. I think i will trade it in for a mk6 gtdðŸ˜

Christ that's rough. Trading is a good option if your looking at that price from an independent mechanic. I used to think chains were better than belts but it's not really the case. Weak chains seem to be pretty common.

I've read about mine that the rattle on cold can be the chain running dry for a few seconds before some adjusters kick in and everything is oiled up. I know theres 0-40w in it so I'm not sure if this effects it at all. Car paranoia is the worse! At least you have your diagnosed anyway, best luck with the trade in.

Tell me about it really frustrating with the car paranoia. Will update if solution other than trade arises. As the car is a beaut an be a shame to see it go. The joys of motoring are not cheap.. hopefully you get a better price on the chain for the merc if you are going through an independent garage. . As on start up it does make a noise. You will notice the car starting to fade in power an maybe Engine management may throw up more codes. I waiting for the day im stranded. Car paranoia at its best. Best of luck Lekrub

that price seems very high for replacement on that engine who has quoted it would consider anything over 600 would be high
