Hi all, not sure if this is the right forum....anyways I just became a mother and due to unfortunate circumstances had to sign onto lone parent. Luckily I got a part time job as I've 5 years experience in catering but I've experienced a lot of hostility in the business. Employers discredited my experience and former work places ect . I really want to get into college and do something more for myself and child....but what options can I go for ? I can't afford €5000 a year to do a ba I can't afford €1400 for fulltime childcare what has other people done do break the cycle ? All feedback would be amazing !!

Look into the SUSI grant. That will cover your college fees. Then check out the Back_To_Education_Allowance. This is the same amount as you're getting from the social welfare now, except there isn't an expectation to go looking for work. As far as I know, you can work a certain number of hours to help yourself too. Also, a lot of colleges have creches these days.

Finally, you could do a course part-time online. I think the SUSI and BTEA dont cover that though. But I could be wrong.
