Partial year income tax in UK

    Hi guys,

I'm back in Dublin after spending some time abroad travelling (not working) and am on the hunt for a job, most likely in the UK.

I am looking to get back to work in June or July which would mean only working for 6/7 months in 2017.

My question is, does the UK tax system operate in the same way as Ireland, in that it is advantageous to start working mid-way through the year?

If not, I would probably wait until after Christmas to move abroad.

I hope I explained what I mean clearly enough.

    Thanks a lot

It certainly did a few years ago anyway; 'join' the tax system mid tax year (which runs from April - March) and one gets a full years tax free allowance. Presume thats what you were wondering!

I started work in the UK last June and my tax free allowance was spread over the 10 remaining  months
