Deano I am in the same boat as you. My letter is also dated 18th April.

I rang up Longford a week ago and they said they only got the notice of appeal allowed a week before and it takes them 2 weeks to organise payment. Based on that phone call, I am expecting payment tomorrow and it should be back dated to last June when I first made my claim.

I can't understand why the wheels grind so slowly in public services?

I'm not going to count the chickens before they are hatched, but I am cautiously optimistic about tomorrow...

I will let you know on here, perhaps you can do the same please...

The letter should state when your first payment date will be. Unless it has to go back to the first office then in that case you will get a letter from them once they have set you up with a start date which is usually 2-4 weeks from them sending out the letter.
Arrears are taking 10-12 weeks to be processed atm, I am waiting for mine and I was awared DA on the 15th or so of april and I was told two days ago it will be another 3 ish weeks till I get the backpay.

Short staffed in Appeals, short staffed in Longford. It's crazy. I rang Carers Allowance one day and the woman who eventually answered the phone said there were 5 staff in Carers section that day.
People think that there's an actual switch board in each section but there's not
Pensions offices are quite well staffed but pensions are easier to process too.

Arrears are processed in an other office in Longford which is only staffed when they are on top of the applications to the main office which pour in every day.
    Arrears are not a priority.
When they're calculating the arrears they have to wait to hear back from the local CWO regarding any SWA you might have received.
