8am test - advice

    27 - first timer - stressed out.

So I have my test coming up in Finglas in a little over a month. I've been allocated an 8am slot on a Wednesday. What are people's experiences with early tests? Would I be better off postponing and trying to get a test during the day?

I've booked this a few times but a series of unfortunate events combined with me postponing the test over anxiety about it means I still haven't even attempted it.

Part of me is thinking that due to my tendency to overthink things, an early test is probably a good thing?

Obviously I'll be having a few lessons/pretests over the coming weeks.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

First of all, postponing tests because they stress you out is not a good way to go.
Just bite the bullet this time.

An early test is as good as any other time of day, with exception of just before lunch when everyone is hungry.

See if you can get some lessons around 8am so you can see what traffic will be like around the area.

How long does it take to get another test if you have to reschedule? Traffic would be busy at that time of morning

If it's the same length if you fail I would go for it and perhaps get some lessons at that time of morning.

I appreciate that yeah, there was a lot going so it wasn't just the driving test at the time, more of an accumulation of things.

Think I'm building it up too much in my head, if I don't pass it, it's not the end of the world. Everyone in my family passed first time around which I think is putting added pressure on me.

    Cheers for the advice

It could actually work out better for you. Traffic will be moving slower. Just make sure you're extra observant, don't get caught going into junction boxes etc. because you think they'll be clear. Lights could change and you're stuck blocking a junction. If you know the area, get into lane as early as possible because of the extra traffic.

Just bite the bullet and go for it. People build it up too much and the reality is, if you were more relaxed, you'd have more chance of passing.

Don't worry how many tries it took others in your family to pass, everyone is different. I passed first time and my instructor sounded shocked when I told him. The GF took 3 attempts and she was driving a lot longer. A friend of mine took 5 tests before passing.

I did my test at 8.30 on a weekday morning in Rathgar. It was actually a great time to do it. As long as you're aware of junctions and that it's going to be busy most of the testing time is spent in slow moving traffic. I've done the test at many different times of the day and morning was by far the best (though of course that's 'cos it was the one I passed)!

At 8:11am they frequently use the test routes that avoid the main roads. It's usually a good time for a test. You'll be hard pushed to find a decent instructor who will do regular lessons at 8am. The day of your test is one that all instructors Should get up for.

Best of luck, hope it goes well for you. I have a 14.00 test in Finglas in 4 weeks but I'm definitely going to push it off, haven't been driving at all lately. Delayed it does seem to ramp up the nerves and anxiety though.

8am test is full of win if you ask me. I did my test at that time (13 years ago :( ) but spent most of it with the handbrake up. Driving is driving weather you're in traffic or on the motorway. Don't worry about it and just get in the car and drive, if you pass you pass if you don't you don't. Just try and enjoy it

Apologies for not replying here sooner, I had read all the advice though and I'm delighted to say I passed my test this morning in Finglas. 1st time, was surprisingly more prepared than I thought. 6 grade 2s. The time of the test suited perfectly and was mainly off the main roads.
    Cheers for all the advice.
