Where is this and can I do some hill-walking there?

Hi all, hoping you can help. I was driving a circuit of Broadford-Bodyke-Ogonnelloe-Killaloe today, and noticed a hill/series of hills, which I ended up doing a complete circle of while driving the circuit mentioned above. They are the hills that are in font of you/slightly to the right as you drive out of Limerick towards Broadford.

I've attached a screenshot of it - the green area in the centre of the shot.

I'd say the views from around there would be fantastic, so I'm wondering if there are any established routes in that area, or even if there is public land there. I saw a couple of signs for the East Clare Way, but nothing more specific than that.

Any info on what walks might be possible would be very welcome.

Well, looks like I found the answer.

As well as a few other hills, there is Moylussa, highest point in Clare:

Must have a walk out there someday.

These are not the hills you mention here - they're slightly south west of that, but there is established walking trails there and fantastic views on a clear day

Start at the Coillte carpark in Ballycuggeran. Nice day out with rewarding views up the lake and beyond. On a good day from Moylussa, you will see some interesting stuff in the distance. In one sweep of the head you can see The Twelve Bens in Connamara, the Galtees inland, and the peaks of the Dingle Peninsula.

Other peaks are good too - great peace and quiet. Sadly a lot of it is just christmas trees but you still can observe a good bit of nature.

Those hills are the Slieve Bernagh range which include Moylussa, the highest mountain in Co. Clare.

There is a well marked walk all the way to the top of Moylussa and the views are spectacular.

This website has lots of info about trails all over the country...

    http://www.irishtrails.ie/trails.aspx?c=Clare

It doesn't include the route for Moylussa, but there is a reasonable video of it here...

+1, this is a great amenity, I do it a couple of times a year at the minimum. You can see Derrybrien in Galway (wind farm) the Arras in Tipp, Black Head (Ballyvaughan) and Aughinish. - on a clear day.

(I can also see my parents' house if I bring binoculars, I grew up looking at these hills every day.)
Ballycuggeran is lovely, last time I did it it pelted rain but when it stopped views over Lough Derg were great.
