We're the same. Last year the guy cutting it only turned up in June, and we were lucky to get it home wet in October. This year he came earlier and we've it footed already. Not a fraction of the misery we went through last year.

Is foot to dig it out, and refoot turn it over?

(Never had turf, know nothing about it, thank god) ;):)

To foot is to put in small stacks. To refoot is to make those stacks again but with the bottom ones at the top.

Not around here the bollox always starts on his side and works his way over to our bank so it's always July when we start

I get a few young lads to foot my turf the last few years.

I draw my own then , sell a few loads and draw the auld mans turf only as he refuses to drive the tractor.

All ours home earlier this week (13 hoppers), got two young lads for two days to help, would be ages trying to get it done otherwise. It was cut mid May and could have done with been home earlier but it wasn't the priority!

Will finish footing during the week after the galway races will be time enough to bring it home

All home bar 2 loads for parents.

Just something maybe to be conscious of....
I lost a few sods (as you do). I didn't stop at the time but was travelling back the same road in the car later and said I'd stop and throw them in the boot. Just as l did, a motorbike came and swerved round them. My heart was in my mouth. He could have been thrown off if he hit them

Have 10 hoppers. Will do the test next week. Mixed quality.

Last year I'll be saving it. Have years worth banked and having difficulty getting the brothers to save it so I won't be the little red hen anymore.
