New 'series' started off today with great fanfare, across all channels , the usual bells and whistles, cameras , in other words a big bust out.

    Hmmmm.........:(

Now I listened to it and in fairness they patted themselves on the back very well

    But........

If they put their packet on Darren Frehill and Jaqui Hurley as their anchors, and have fat middle aged men like Des Cahill and Marty Morrissey as their 'edgy party guys' in my opinion they are on a biiiiiig loser.

    What does everyone think ?

Bring back Val Joyce and Airs and Races, I say. It was the soundtrack to my Saturday afternoons when I was a chiseler.

Aaah heeeyurr ! Things have moved on:cool:

Not a lot of interest in this topic I notice, however, the real point of my thread was that, given the way things are now, so far removed from Val Joyce who you could insert ads between his word delivery he was so slow and drawling.

Never liked the lad Harry, that's how it goes.

Anyway the real point was, I feel, was to quote the well hackneyed phrase' a missed opportunity' to get in a younger more vibrant team than than the current incumbents .

Too many 'lifers' floating around for my taste and honestly Jaqui Hurleys accent drives me a bit mad... Ayerrrsen Wenger ,manager of Ayerrrsenal.

    Nah.... Not for the Bren.

I like Darren frehill but des Cahill can't be far off packing it in. Having listened to a lot of BBC 5live des Cahill wouldn't last a wet week.

You couldn't even refer to Des and Marty as middle aged anymore. They're 64 and 58 respectively.

There really seems to be a problem with transitioning young talent into the sports department. Too many auld lads clinging on to their spots.

Never had much time for Dessie and his auld Doooblin schtick. Like the sort you'd meet in a boozer shîttin' on about the time he saw Roy Keane playing for Notts Forest and knew he was something special.

Think Marty Morrissey is excellent though. Clear dictation, excellent knowledge of his brief, adds some colour to his reports without coming across as trying too hard.

Now never said I thought Marty was bad-far from it, just that the opportunity arose to ' break out' and get some new 'young ' talent into the mix.

And you'd never get Cahill, ever saying anything good about anything to do with Man U . Never.

So Royston would not be mentioned.

Cahill claims to be a West Ham supporter but take it from me that ' Liverpewall' sssshluuurp is his team.

He did a skit years ago on the radio about Irish people always choosing to support the most successful English teams.

He instead decided to follow Rochdale for a season, who are statistically the least successful side in Football League history, having spent a record 78 years in total playing in the old fourth division.

He had an amusing story of going over to a game and the cab driver at Manchester airport not having a clue where the ground was.

Drives me insane. She reported on some event taking place in New Yark.
    Dreadful.

Not for me. A provincial. Likes to promote himself.
His brief really is County GAA.
Bit like old Mick Dunne of old days. Dreadful commentator he was: "It's the goal from Mikey Sheehy"!

Des as much as he's a dose is definitely a West Ham fan.

Things you might expect Des to say: "Well his wife was from Cork, so you can imagine what the journey back from Croke Park was like for them".
