    Hi

I'm not used to phones and I was planning on buying a new sim free phone. If I just take the sim card from my current phone with Vodafone and put it into the new sim free phone will I still have the same phone number?

Basically is the number tied to the phone or sim card?

    Thanks.

The SIM. You can do exactly as you wish.

Broadly yes - your SIM is your account with the mobile company and your phone number is linked to that.

Some things to beware of are:
The new phone might be locked to a particular network.

Your sim might be old and you might not be getting everything you pay for (4G for example)

Contacts might not carry forward automatically.

Your Sim might not fit the new phone - the store will advise.

If you go into a shop they will probably want to sell you a phone on a 18 to 24 month contract
