Would anyone have a link to a list of Gbit routers on which a VPN client can be set up natively?

Most I have here have VPN pass-through only.

The Asus AC1900 (RT-AC68U) has been recommended to me.
Also suggested is an alternative firmware, Asuswrt-Merlin, from here
    https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/

It does appear to have not only what I am looking for but plenty of added functions to help manage traffic etc.

    Comments welcome ;)

If you have the luxury of time and a bit of money, you can setup your own router with single board computers. Perhaps you would want the Raspberry Pi VPN Router.

You need to buy the Raspberry Pi, which is a single board computer, and install a unix-like OS or Router OS.

For the guide, you can google "Raspberry Pi VPN Router"

If you mean something like this
    https://store.pfsense.org/SG-2220/
then it appears the AC1900 would be a better purchase as it includes more NICs, and Wifi and is cheaper.

Is that what you had in mind?
    Thanks.

When I compare the result to the suggested AC 1900 this option fails to impress me TBH.
I doubt the R-Pi would have the grunt to encrypt high throughput that might be seen on a fibre connection.
I might try it as an experiment as I have a R-Pi Model B unused somewhere. Thanks.

No specific hardware in mind, you can run it on an old desktop if you wish.

The PF stands for Packet Filter. Thats what it does. Wifi isnt its thing. Neither is switching. Its a killer router and firewall. If you want to control your network and have every option possible available through a GUI its the way to go.

Id build a stack, PF Sense unit (dont have to buy from PF), 8port switch, WLAN AP. Costs a little more than buying a SOHO router but it gives you a lot more features.

Highly recommend a Unifi USG. I have one and find it works really well and use it for a site to site VPN from my home office to my main office but can also PPTP into it.
