Social Welfare refusing Tùs (Help)

    Hello,

(Sorry for the wall of text)

    Let me explain,

Recently I received a form from Tùs to fill out asking if I was interested, Three days later I got a letter in the post from Tùs Nua to attend a interview with them in the following two weeks. By the time I had the Tùs Nua information session Tùs already offered me a place to work for the 12 months, everything was going fine at this stage had two interviews with the local company but then I got a phone call from the Tùs agent saying the Social Welfare officer has refused Tùs request due to having the letter for Tùs Nua interview before Tùs interview came in as the social welfare doesn't count Tùs form as been with that scheme.

Already been to my local welfare office which I got told to send a letter to that office to be sent to big boss.

Been unemployed for over 2 years now finally got a job that I was looking forward to do then get told sorry you can't do that due to red tape, in my mind they shouldn't care if I do Tùs or Tùs Nua both bring me off the live register.

Has anyone else had this issue and what can I do to fix it?

I'm afraid with the way the rules are at the moment, you're stuck with turas nua aka jobpath. Unless you had a job offer from tus before the letter came, you've no choice. The same thing happens with ce schemes. I'm not sure why jobpath get priority though.

Plenty of threads here about turas nua, be aware! Best of luck

If you have a start date for Tus within four weeks of being referred to Turas Nua then you can take up the Tus placement.

That's not been my experience at the admin side of ce. You have to have the place offered before turas nua. You only get a start date after an offer.

I had a offer from Tus before I went to that Turas Nua information session already had the paper work sent off to the Social welfare and Turas Nua was happy with the letter I handed them on that day seems the Social Welfare are only ones stopping me from doing this at this stage.

As the interview for tus was after the turas nua letter, then you did not have an offer for a tus place. An offer from tus is a specific position post interview offered with a start date. Unless you had that, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do.

Edited to add: the rules are downright stupid, especially since going on jobpath does not take you off the live register. We've had major issues with recruiting new ce participants because of it. The whole system should be working together, not against itself.

Think that stupid If i said no to the Tus form wouldn't I have to explain to the social welfare why I said no? Strange why Tus doesn't just give me a interview instead of filling out a form do the same as Turas Nua. Thought both got me off the live register that is more stupid the social welfare not wanting me off their books for 12 months isn't that their role to make it look like not many people are on their books?

I think it's to do with the contract turas nua have, they get paid if you get a job. You also have no choice about taking the place up. It's supposed to be random, but we've had a lot of possible participants grabbed up by it within days of us checking their eligibility. It could be a coincidence, the figures are higher than expected though.

Tus don't take everyone on, it depends if the interview goes well and the company like you.

I don't know if it would do any good, but writing to your local td or the minister is probably your next best step.

Doesn't Tus also get paid for taking me off social welfare?. I'll wait to see what I hear back from the head social welfare officer if i don't hear anything back by Friday I'll write a letter to my Td,thought someone might had luck in dealing with Social Welfare how they overcame this issue was thinking I must not have been the first person to fight with the welfare to stay on another scheme.

No, tus schemes are paid for by social welfare, it actually costs more to have you on tus than just on ja.

You have to stay realiatic, you were never on tus, you never had a start date or offer. That's how social welfare look at it.

Pff then I had a lot of luck a year ago
was for 5 months on Seetec when TUS invited me for an interview and 3 weeks later got the job
Luckily I'm finished next month at tus and move on to a CE scheme Had three CE job offers on it with the chance to stay on it for a max of 6 years they told me
Seems they cant get anyone for the schemes anymore

CE scheme is slightly different to Tus in so far as CE is self referral but Tus more often than not is random invite from DSP.

As far as I've been told once your signed onto Turas Nua you cannot do anything else for that year. I was on two courses (sent on both by SW, one had job offer at the end of it starting May and one an at home IT thing from Intreo) that I got told I could no longer complete thanks to being sent to Turas. Bit of a waste of 6 months but there we go.

So once you have that Turas Nua letter thats it for a year basically.

That's what I don't get still both letters come from the DSP but I have been told by my local welfare officer I can say no to the Tus form that gets sent out but their letter states if i indicate no on that form I must have a reason to have said no. Shouldn't push one over the other is what am getting at.

If you have a start date for Tus within 4 weeks of being referred for jobpath then you can take up the Tus placement but if its not within this timeframe then you cannot participate on Tus and will have to continue to engage with jobpath.
