Prius front suspension repair cost?

So, my 2005 Prius has just failed the NCT due to a front suspension imbalance of 68% (front nearside was 37mm, offside 117mm, both rears 35mm). Tester said there was no obvious damage or leaks so probably needs new shock absorbers, the car has done 173k kilometres so a bit of wear and tear has to be expected.

Anyone any idea of likely costs and is there likely to be much of a difference between a Toyota dealer and a independent? Car has a full Toyota service history and I intend to keep it for the next few years.

I presume the nearside is as old as the offside so they should be replaced in pairs but won't know that until the garage take a look.

You get the likes of KYB shocks (you should really get both) for around €220 and add another €120 or so labour for an indie to fit them.

Thanks Colm, are those prices for the pair or each?

Pair. Based on the type of indies I know.

Much appreciated, I have a friendly indie in mind but might check with Toyota and see how they compare, I'll report back on their pricing.

I got the price for the KYBs on micksgarage.ie

Probably unnecessary to be using a main dealer for a job like this at the cars age.

According to toyodiy.com, front shocks are €129 each. The last time I checked re their prices and Toyotas prices for parts, my Toyota garage came in cheaper.
If you want to keep your Toyota history a full history, ask your local Toyota dealer for a price for the job.

Thanks Chippy, last time I needed the weird 12v battery they use I found the Toyota dealer cheaper too. I'll check both and see.
