BMW badge (fell off!)

    Hi

As the title says and in the pics below, the badge just came off on the motorway! (and at normal speeds). Car out of warranty.

    I prefer OEM replacement.

I've had a quick look on eBay and their badges seem to have two plastic tabs sticking out the back... so not what I need?

What should I do for replacement?

    Thanks.

Half the badge is still attached there!

Pry the rest of the badge out and replace.

Go to a main dealer or if purchasing from Ebay make sure it's an official badge preferably still in original BMW packaging to verify.

    Hah, so it delaminated!

Right. Are all the badges the same size for whatever model of car? the 82mm size?

EDIT: Yea its off the car now and 82mm. I'll order from eBay

Did you try BMW for one? They can be fairly reasonable for small bits and pieces like that, and it will be OEM..

Same thing happened to my wife's Skoda Superb. Both front and back badges went within three months. Ordered OEM ones off eBay.

It was only the metal piece that came off leaving the plastic backing. I used fishing wire to remove the backing and then cleaned off the sticky residue with tar remover before fitting the new badge.

I don't think power washers do them any favours. Once water gets in they seem to delaminate pretty quickly. Common problem with the Superb.

As said do not buy non-genuine badges off eBay. I went through 3 of them each lasting less than a month. Eventually got one from BMW dealer and it has lasted a year so far without issue.

Some 3rd party badges are good quality. I bought an E36 in 2007 and the bonnet badge fell off 2 weeks after. I replaced it with one off ebay which wasn't very expensive. It's still on the car and looks like new ten years later. You could just look for a UK seller who has sold 1000s of them and who has perfect feedback, you probably won't go wrong. Considering the price BMW charge for things like door trim clips, I wouldn't even darken their door!
