Wondering have ye preferences for the mart over the factory for finished cattle.
I have a big flock of six bullocks ready now and debating what to do.

Seems to me once the cattle go into the factory you're at their mercy?

Do you mean factory manager. In the mart you're there as they're being sold and you can take it or leave it but the mart manager wont guarantee you a price.

You might do well at the mart but if agents are on friendly terms with each other on that day you might under sell them. I personally would get the best price possible off a different factories and kill them. I have supplied a few factories over the years and i can't say it was their fault if an animal didn't perform as I thought.

By the way I am not pro factory either.

    Thanks for the input lads.
It'd be a balls if the agents at the Mart were "friendly" as you said. Pot luck there so.

Had a fella out from the local factory and said "they're good cattle ah shur they'd make €2 a kilo anyway".

Pot luck on the day at the factory too as the fella grading them has the final say I guess?
Lot of people swear by the factory so I'll see what happens

What age and weight are these bullocks?
    Are you Quality assured?
Will the bullocks qualify for the QA bonus, how many movements?

It shouldn't be pot luck in the factory once you agree the base price before hand. If you go to your local mart and see what's going on, get a quote from the factory, you can make a decision then.

    22-27 months.
surely 650-700 kilos I reckon, not the best with weights.

    3 AAX and 3 LMX.

    We are quality assured.
One movement on 4, none on 2.

    I appreciate the help!

If you do mart them, pick a mart that sells a lot of finished cattle. Lads wouldn't be bringing them there if they weren't happy with the price. A big mart is usually a safe bet.

I'm not certain but I'd imagine those animals woud get the QA bonus and maybe the AA bonus as well which might make the factory a better option depending on what base price the agent is offering you.

You'd always be learning, thanks for the tips.
I'll ring the agent again tomorrow and get a base price for the lot and let them off id say.
Won't get rich on them anyway but you've to be at something shur

Make sure ya tell him you were quoted 5c more from another agent. Tell him to make sure there is no cut on breed bonus (if any) due to grading and anything else you may fall down on. But you'll give him the gig this time. ☺

I think you'll do better with the factory instead of the mart. Why give a lad at the ringside a chance to make an extra 100 yoyo on them? Never heard of mart managers guaranteeing prices either.

If ya think about it blue why wouldn't they take a hundred euro twist as fast as anyone else? They'd be foolish not to.

Have heard it from one or two fellows taht some mart managers wi gaurantee prices. However what price they gaurantee at is another question. It would depend on what time they were sold at. If heavy cattle like that are standing around for a good while they go fair empty by 3-4pm.

In that case these AA/LM bullocks could killout 54/55% add in breed bonus and QA and these cattle could average over 4.1 in the factory ( presumimg the AA grade O+ and the LM grade R-/R=) In that case heavy cattle like that would want to make up on 2.20/kg. It isunlikly that they would score that in a mart.

If you were BB certified, and the cattle were in spec, you'd technically get the 12c a kilo above their kill price. If someone bought them at the mart they'd have to have them for 70 days to qualify, which would be too long if they are finished. I have found in the past that there's value selling stores in May or June where the next fella can intensively finish them for two months and still be under 30 months, but I've only done this where I've been over stocked.

I've always been guaranteed a base price form my agent once the cattle grade. I'd never send them off without knowing.

Yeah I'm bb certified and the cattle are at least R's.
base price of €4.05 I've gotten.
3 are Angus but don't think the factory gives it. Just whiteheads. Waiting to hear from him about it.
    Thanks for the input

There's a county situated in the south west corner of Munster. Guaranteed prices in the mart is how they roll down there.

Heard a good one about that a few years ago. The auctioneer who was also the mart manager had promised this lad a fancy price for his pedigree bull. The bull went into the ring and the owner was surprised at the strength of the bidding as the auctioneer was going from one side of the ring and up the back for bids. The 5 year old bull hit over 1700 euro much to the owner's delight. That was until the auctioneer turned to him and said ''you will have to withdraw him I am at 1740 euro and have not received a bid yet''
