Floor varnish. Water based on top of oil based.

I recently varnished with an oil based varnish.
Sadolin PV67 to be exact. I put 2 coats on but it needs a third coat.
I don't want to use the same type as the formaldehyde smell it emits as it cures is extremely toxic and takes a full week to go away.
Can I simply sand over lightly and use a water based varnish?
The person in the shop thinks it will react with the oil based
but a google search gives varying pinions.
Has anybody got any experience of applying water based on top of oil based?

Did that a couple of years ago with a floor and got loads of spots on it
Had to start it all over again
So don't take the risk do it with the same oil based varnish as the first two coats

If you have some of the Sadolins left over why don't you varnish some waste timber and leave it to dry in the shed, or elsewhere, where the smell won't bother anyone.

After two coats give it a coat of water based varnish...you'll soon know if it's okay or if it reacts.

This is the only real way to find out for sure.

Good idea and i do have a bit left over but it won't work because after you mix the hardener in you've only 3 hours or so to apply. I mixed it all together because the tin says you have to get the ratio exactly right.

Junckers Strong is a water based varnish that is used over their oil based stains and is very durable. You could buff the exiting finish and apply a few coats of Strong as it dries in about 2 hours and has no smell.

Have you experience of applying Junckers over Sadolins PV67? I don't know if the 2 different manufacturers would be compatible.
If it'd work it'd be great. I really don't want to ship the family out again as the Sadolin curing is very corrosive on the lungs and I'd really prefer to use water based.
Where is Junckers available do you know?

I have applied it over oil based varnishes but not sadolin as I wouldn't use it.I have also applied it directly over oil based floor stain with no problem.
Junckers website has a technical query section on there.

Why? Just as a matter of interest.
