    Well folks,

Whats the general consensus on these? Anyone here own one or have experience of one? Anything in particular to look out for with these?

As a side note; is the future of diesel doomed? Are we likely to get hit with a big increase in tax on diesel cars in the near future?

I've heard mixed things regarding how it handles and what it's like to drive. Is it as bad as people make out? Bear in mind I'm coming from a MK4 Golf so I'm sure it won't be that bad...

I must say though the Saab is very well spec'd

The 9-3 used the Opel Vectra platform and the 1.9 diesel engine was from Fiat. It's generally a reliable unit but they can suffer from many modern diesel problems such as clutch/flywheel failure, DPF, etc. There are different power variants of the 1.9 litre diesel engine. base 8v 120bhp, 16v 150bhp and then they brought out a 16v twin turbo 180bhp version. Buy as new as you can as build quality got better with the interior facelift from early 2007 onwards. As Saab are no more some parts can be hard enough to source these days to my knowledge.

In a few years we will look at diesel cars the same way we look at asbestos now.
