It's my home club fixed.... 6500 yards par 71 good challenge, nice mix of long and short par 4s, lots of elevations changes, in excellent condition and playing difficult at the moment.

If your coming up for a round give me a shout.

Once, years ago. It's ok, not that memorable though.

I really like it, Fix. They introduced three new holes 4/5 years ago - mostly for the better, although they did lose one beauty. As Kieran says, lots of changes in elevation which adds tremendous interest. The driveway divides the 17th so you'll get a good idea what the course is about before you start.

It may not make it into the top 100 but in terms of entertainment I'd say it's better than plenty of the big name courses.

Bring crampons with you for a grip. Very hilly.

So played Rossmore on a fabulous day.

Didn't know what to expect and you don't go to Monaghan to play golf too often. Concra has changed things in the last few years

Got great tips from Kieran here and - it is certainly a very local knowledge type course. It is up and down and twists and turns. It is somewhat eccentric in places and the unique land of Monaghan plays a part - (drumlins as they say locally)

I like unusual courses - with elevation changes , likes of Clonmel, Esker hills.

So as Kevin says - as you drive in , you are a bit surprised that it is so hilly.

Was a fun fundraiser event , with friends - so wasn't a real golf thing at all, a few pints before and plenty after :D. There were lads playing , that had played little or no golf.

So a surprise around every corner - and there are plenty of corners , twists , turns, drops and rises.

Some very nice holes like the first 4 - then 6 is an unusual par 5. I have to say the par 3s are all excellent - and much much harder than the par 5s that seem weak and too short (The tees could have been forward).

The back nine is a serious walk. You could be critical and say - the tough walk comes very late in the round, Fantastic views and great holes to finish like 15 - 16 - 17. I wasn't a big fan of the over encroaching tree basically blocking the 18th green, also think I hit a rock blocking edge of green with drive.

We had much needed hearty food after and great craic with the locals and the staff.

It was nice to see a golf club being full and interacting with the local community in an open and progressive and positive way.

So great day - nice to be away from chasing a score and just playing for the laugh - like drove the 11th, a thing you wouldn't dream of doing in a serious game.

As Kevin said - it is not chasing the top 100, but most golf is for amateurs and it is nice to see the way golf was set up from the start as it is an old club. And it is clubs like Rossmore that are actually the true heart of Irish golf. Big modern championship courses are great too, but they are just too hard for 80 % + of the golfers out there.

So, a great day - Kavanagh gave a poor impression of Monaghan. Obviously wasn't a golfer :)

You should be writing for a Golf magazine.

Thanks for the write up Fix you really should be a writer/poet !!!

Its funny you say the par 3s were strong and the par 5s were weak, it just so happens you played the course on a day were the wind was blowing the opposite direction to normal. The Par 5 5th is 585yards into the wind off the comp tees unsually and the next par 3 is usually only a 7/8iron of but was a 5 wood on Saturday!!

Super shot to drive the green on the 11th, I know its down hill and was down wind but its still 330yards and you cants see the the green from the tee box !!!
