A guy in the yard recently spoke very highly of the above recently.

Anyone any experience? Is it any good or just 'snake oil!!'

    TIA

Actually thought these were banned along with costic soda until 3 years ago when spotted it in vets shop. have used 2 of them. And found when done at correct time and correctly it works a treat. Found it less work and easier in the calf rather than the dehorner. Usually do it 6-7 days old. Keep aeay from mother for an hour. Have started checking them few weeks later to make sure done and all ok this year. I'll put up the brand's I have used later or tomorrow.

I had a lad working with me one spring who had been working in NZ and brought some paste back with him. He did all my calves and they were perfect. He was doing them at a few days old and I would say guessing where the buds would appear as most had nothin I could feel anyways. I never had the confidence to try it but I heard also it was banned here. Worth a try though I guess you could always go in with the de budder later if needs be

Have always used it. It's the stick that was banned not the paste. As soon as you can feel any sort of a horn, then we clip a wee bit of hair away and put a pea size of paste on it and smudge it down to a five pence peace size. Job done. The earlier the better as calf is easier to hold.
