Engine is rattly in my 520d, sounds like the Timing Chain may need to be done. The car has 170,000km on it and has a full BMW service history. What are the chances of getting this replaced under Goodwill warranty?

38.2% ? Just ask a few dealers around what they can do for you, each case is individual...

Write letters, file small claim court order and just keep pushing.

If you create enough noise they will do it I'm sure.

Speak to them first before putting their backs up to the wall

Main dealer needs to diagnose it properly and then open a case with BMW Ireland to cover goodwill. How much goodwill if any, will really depend on your relationship with the dealer as ultimately they will make the case for you.

If you get no goodwill from BMW then you're talking about €1500 from a good BMW indy to replace it.

Thanks. Yeah, I got a quote for 1450 from an Indy yesterday.
