Assistance with finding somewhere to live while on SWA

I am currently receiving Supplementary Welfare Allowance while awaiting Disability Allowance (due to long-term mental health issues.) I have submitted the forms for DA, however I'm told it could take as long as a year.

I am currently temporarily living with family (had been renting privately until recently.) However it's having a really detrimental affect on my mental health, and it's a toxic environment for me.

Does anyone know if it's possible to apply for some sort of rent allowance at the moment, or would I have to wait until a decision is made on the Disability Allowance first?

    Thanks.

Are you on the housing list and do you have anyone helping you out say a social worker or even your doctor, if yes speak with them about getting letters of support, hope you get sorted soonl

Are you on the social housing list of your local authority?
If not definitely get yourself on it ASAP.
Speak to the CWO about rent supplement and the local authority about HAP
Both are payments to help with housing.
    Good luck.

I'm not on any housing list at the moment but am planning to do this first thing on Monday.

I am receiving my current social welfare payment through my local authority (i.e. my current address, where my parents live.) However I want to go on the housing list of a different local authority on the other side of the country - is this likely to pose problems? I have genuine reasons for this - my three-year-old son currently lives on that side of the country, there is plenty of access in place but it's really difficult to pay for transport over and back a few times a week.

You can make your case to be considered for that local authority based on what you've said here
Write a clear and concise letter to accompany the application form setting out your family circumstances.
    I wish you good luck
