Hi, I recently imported a UK car and paid over 1000 euro vrt, 25 days later I had a accident and car is now damaged beyond repair, my question is, Have I any grounds to look for a vrt refund? Or can I look to export the car again and get a vrt refund?

Would be nice to get something rather than writing off a grand...

    Thanks in advance

It's a very good question if you can export a damaged car and receive VRT refund?
I doubt it, but haven't found anything indicating you couldn't.

    However:
    1. Car needs to have valid NCT.
    2. It needs to be presented for export inspection.
    3. It needs to be re-registered in country you are exporting it to (if it's within EU).

I think 3rd point might be the most difficult to fulfil with crashed car.

If the crash happened with 7 working days OF REGISTRATION you can claim the VRT back, if this is applicable to you get onto Revenue straight away, I generally find them 100% if you are 100%.
