BEFORE YOU READ THIS PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE IDEAS WILL PROBABLY NEVER HAPPEN. HOWEVER IF THEY WERE INTRODUCED THE SERVICE WOULD BE SOMEWHAT IMPROVED.

Hi, all. Here are some timetable changes that I think would improve the 1 Dublin Bus Route.

I think the first departure from Sandymount should be at the earlier time of 05:00 for people who have to get to work early etc. The route variation t (meaning Operates Sandymount to City Centre only) should be removed from some of the morning departures too.

The first departure from Santry should be a little bit earlier, at the time of 06:00. The route variation f (meaning Operates City Centre to Sandymount) should be removed from some of the morning departures.

    Here's the proposed timetable:

From Santry (Shanard Rd.) Towards Sandymount (St. John's Church):

    Mon-Fri: 06:00 06:20f 06:40 07:00f 07:10 07:20 07:30f 07:40 07:50 08:00f 08:10 08:20 08:30f 08:40 08:50f 09:00 09:05f 09:20 09:40 10:00 10:20 10:40 11:00 11:20 11:40 12:00 12:20 12:40 13:00 13:20 13:40 14:00 14:20 14:40 15:00 15:20 15:40 16:00 16:20 16:40 17:00 17:15 17:30 17:45 18:00 18:15 18:30 18:45 19:00 19:30 20:00 20:30 21:00 21:30 22:00 22:30 23:00 23:30 00:00 00:30t

People on the Maynooth line can't get to work before 7am any day and can't get home after 9pm on Sundays.

Meanwhile the Bus Eireann 109a runs between Meath and the city centre 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I admire your enthusiasm but there is some serious rebalancing to be done in the existing system before service expansion.

While you're right about the priorities, "people on the Maynooth line can't get home" is a bit over the top. It is still perfectly possible to use the bus.

The 66 is within walking distance of the outer stations, and the 37, 38, 39, 39a and 120 are within walking distance of the inner stations and all operate hours outside those hours and will facilitate arrivals into the city before 07:00, and after 21:00 on Sundays.

Do people on the northside not need to get to work early too?

OP - I do admire your enthusiasm, but looking at posts listing tons of detailed departure times for each bus route is just going to turn people off.

You would be better discussing the operating hours in general and frequencies and the reasons behind them rather than listing departure times for the entire day.

You have to understand that there is a finite number of buses and drivers which Dublin Bus have to operate the service - they simply don't have enough to do everything that you, I or most people would like them to do.

With regard to the 1, the service is a southside service only prior to 09:00 on weekdays so buses are focussed on the Sandymount-City section and v.v. The 16 covers the northern half of the route during that period from Shanard Road to the city. It's an essential compromise to deliver the service with the resources that they have at present.

The main focus on improving the bus service will be on dealing with capacity issues - that will mean adding extra buses where possible to the schedule.

On a side note, do you reckon the 1 should switch roles with the 16 and cover the Beaumont detour?

Shur why bother with a train service at all if the bus will do...

I'm not disagreeing with your point regarding the lack of rail services on the Maynooth line on Sunday nights, but saying that people have no way of getting home is simply not true, and the same applies with regard to getting into town for before 07:00.

There are public transport options available.

    They can also get taxis!
