Entering US from Nicaragua as Irish citizen

    Hi all,

    Have tried contacting embassies etc but not much success.

    Can I enter the US from Nicaragua as an Irish passport holding citizen? I have been warned against this and an reluctant to book flights till I get info. Does anyone have any experience with entering the US from Central America?

    Once you are arriving by air, the visa waiver program (VWP) will apply if you hold an Irish passport, are travelling as a tourist and intend to stay in the US no more than 90 days i.e. the country of departure is not significant as long as you have not travelled to or been present in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011.

    There is nothing on this webpage qualifying your right to present at a point of entry to the US under the VWP based on the country you are travelling from...

    So a valid ESTA and you'll be fine but you may get more questions than usual when they see those South American stamps in your passport.
