Hi, please tell me, why not to get this laptop?

    hhttp://www.laptopsdirect.ie/hp-omen-17-w092na-core-i5-7200u-8gb-1tb-128gb-15.6-inch-windows-10-touchs-z5c11ea/version.asp

This will be for the wife. She is looking for a fast, nice looking laptop, to replace her XPS 17.3 Inch Dell gaming laptop.

    Fast and responsive laptop.
    ideally last 4 years.
    17.3 Inch
    Must have : M.2 Port
Full HD Screen, but 4K if possible.

    Usage, light gaming, Sims,Facebook, etc.

I have emailed HP, asking them, if I were to replace the current installed M.2 Drive, with a Samsung 960, will it void the Guarantee, and I was told no, unless i damage something replacing it, but, if any issue develop, not related to the hard drive, I should be ok.

Alternatively, i will replace the M.2 Drive after 12 months.

As, i can not see anything better for €1000?

    thanks.

If you have a copy of Windows, you could match the spec and get the below on PC Specialist for 998.

    https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusVIII-17/

Better GFX card, and if you dont need the 128 SSD that comes with it (because you have one already) you can take that out and the price comes down to 932.

I have never heard of them, PC Specialists. Website looks good. any experience?

one more thing, as the laptop is for the wife, her main requirement is, it must look nice... She does not want a bland looking laptop.

I am in charge of making sure it is fast ,etc. she does not know the difference between rams ( like she called it) and SSD

therefore i was looking at the Omen, or maybe MSI / Asus laptops.

On that basis go with the omen, but yeah got my gaming laptop from pcspecialist and it was a brilliant purchase. Got a lot more bang for my buck

FYI, I got a Proteus 15 incher from them. There is a 17 inch model, and it does look really cool, so worth playing with the configuration to see if it suits you.

    Looking for something kinda similar myself, still haven't made up my mind but few ones i've come across that might interest you;

    Lenovo Y520 http://www3.lenovo.com/ie/en/laptops/ideapad/legion-y-series/Lenovo-Y520-15IKBN/p/88GMY500808

    Acer VX15

    Dell Inspiron 7000 gaming series

I've been researching a gaming laptop for 1000-1200 and its hard going, so many options out there but almost every one seems to have something against it. Might have a look at pcspecialists myself now I see it, cheers Pter

That Lenovo looks very good for the price - what is holding you back from getting that?

GTX960M is really poor in that price bracket now.

    Dell's Inspiron 7000 is 1200 for an i7-7700K, 16GB DDR4, SSD/HDD, GTX1050Ti 4GB which would absolutely whallop the 960M in games - about twice as fast.

Even the Lenovo above is good value and the non-Ti GTX1050 is still way faster than the 960M - maybe 60% faster or so.

If the gaming is literally just sims it won't matter as much but if 'light gaming' also covers new games it would be a terrible mistake to spend 1K on an old GTX960M.

As terror firmer says, it's only the 1050 and not 1050ti on the Lenovo and the screen on the dell is putting me off.

That Dell looks like the best value for money with those specs tbh. I cant find anything that ticks the boxes like it does.

    Hi all

    Thanks for all the replies.

I played around with PC Specialist last night, and saw I can get a much better system than the Omen, for just a little bit more.

I also saw they have many, many good reviews.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, when you go to HP.com, US site, you can configure the HP Omen,

So basically I can get the below system for €1050

    Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ (2.8 GHz, up to 3.8 GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 (4 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
    8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB)
    17.3" diagonal UHD IPS UWVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (3840 x 2160)

    I have:
    250GB Samsung 960 EVO Polaris M.2 NVMe SSD (3200/1500)
500 GB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5in Solid State Drive

And, let’s just say, I wont have to pay anything to bring my own laptop back into Ireland…
