Just looking for opinions on the topic.

Looking to buy some shoe covers, I already own ones bbb in black, and came across these castelli corsa in the wiggle site at good price. My doubt is whether to stick with black or go fluo.
If going fluo I like the idea of vi hiz but hate the thought of colour coordination. Saying that I own some jerseys are black/Blue with some fluo colour on it. I don't own any full fluo colour jersey though.

Appreciate your opinion on the above. Cheers for taking your time.

    https://eurocyclist.wordpress.com/about/

Rule 8 here says only white overshoes can be worn.

    http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#15

The Velominati appear to make no mention of overshoes.

It's a toughie, but on balance, in this case, I think you're free to go with your gut instinct. If you think, you can carry off fluo, then go go for it, but be prepared to be slagged off.
BTW, I'm delighted to hear that you don't own any full fluo colour jersey, that would be just tragic.

White or black in regards the Castelli, not the Fluo. Looks naff, although should eb safer on the roads as no one wwll go near you wearing them :pac:

What are they for in general, the reviews are not great for Irish weather.

Fluo all the way. Have had black for years (apart from the old papa smurf blue sidi ones back in the day) and they are boring if practical.
White would look cool for all of 30 second then spend years in a state of ever increasing grubbiness.
Have seen the fluo ones appearing and think they are both the business and reasonably practical.
Also reminds me on thee raves in the 80/90's...

What's the point of of hi viz? From a lot of posts here it seems it does nothing to make you more visible.

Only get them if you're cycling to cyber rave and don't want to change footwear on arrival.

I bought fluo bbb overshoes a couple of weeks ago. :D

They were too big for my shoes :(

    That , is a disaster.......
    Simple to fix tho .......

What you need to do is get an Elastic band,
grab the extra (loose) bit of the overshoe, and place said "gallybander" on it...

    Hey ho.... sorted.

    You are welcome ... :D

just for training really. Yeap they don't seem to get great reviews but seems due to people getting the wrong size.

A few people complained of the cold and no protection compared to other brands, although a few said they were grand.

If you're really bad-ass and can cycle right through the night on rural roads, with nowt but a few rapid blinks for some sleep, then fluro is a no-brainer ( along with other hi-viz accoutrement )

The answer must lie in the socks. Am assuming they are knee-length. Should try and get a bit of contrast. If you're going fluorescent I would suggest one yellow and one orange swapping the colours when you get to the overshoes.....

    @Galego.

I assume by your username you have some Galician connections.

Heading to Lisbon Sunday for a quick trip up to Santiago. I hope to be drinking some of your fine Estrella Galicia as soon as we cross the border.

    No overshoes required (hopefully)

Yes I am galician. :-) From Burela in the Lugo Province.
Are you going with the bike?
I like Estrella Galicia but we are known more for our white wines (Albarinho & Ribeiro).
Be aventurous and eat a "Pulpo a feira!!" My favourite - I never get tired of eating it! Enjoy your trip. Weather meant to be nice......

    Which route are you doing?
IMO the nicest part of Galicia to cycle is Os Ancares going from the Ourense all the way up to Asturias crossing them.

Hugely underrated area of the world to visit.

Great food, drink, countryside and coast.

Spent a week sailing around Baiona and Vigo before cycling to Pyrnees. The festival in Baiona was great fun

I've only ever had the Pulpo with potatoes, salt, paprika. I've had it quite a bit though.

    Can't help on overshoes sorry!

Enjoy trip @seaswimmer. Following coast or heading inland? Interior of Portugal is fantastic,

There are two types of cyclists, those who would wear Fluo overshoes and those who are wrong ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭Galego

I see nothing wrong about fluo colour my post was whether I would look like a rainbow wearing each thing in a different colour.

Anyway I am going with my guts on this one..thanks anyone who contributed to the topic.

By the way....most out there go out colour coordinated, big brands (castelli santini...) , big expensive bikes, carbon wheels, etc...but then I get slagged when I post a cycling fashion question!? Is it a tabu topic in ireland? :-)

    What colour is your bike?

Fluorescent pink and black is so last year darling! I'd suggest something a little more subtle, maybe a hounds tooth pattern, or maybe an understated Argyll pattern. Overshoes do come in those styles one assumes.
