Question on EU261

    Hi All
I have a question on EU261 that I am hoping some of the people on this forum can help me with

I was due to fly on EK: BKK-DXB-DUB at 1.15am Monday morning
The BKK-DXB flight was delayed approx. 2.5 hours (reason: late arrival of aircraft from HKG) and as a result arrived in DXB at 07.10

This was 5 minutes before the departure of my DXB-DUB leg, which I (obviously) missed

After a few hours queueing in mayhem, EK re-booked me on to the next available DXB-DUB flight - which was 8 hours later.

I thus returned to DUB at 20.10 instead of the planned 12.05

Just wondering if this 8 hour delay qualifies under EU261?

1 person has told me that it doesn't as EK is a non EU airline and the delay was only on the BKK-DXB leg - therefore my missed connection to the EU does not count

Another has said that as my original contract with EK was DUB-DXB-BKK plus a return BKK-DXB-DUB, then it does apply

Would appreciate any feedback... And before anyone drones on about compo culture - you didn't experience the nightmare journey that I went through (they didn't even serve a meal on the BKK-DXB flight after the 2.5 hour delay!)
    Thanks in Advance!

No you won't be covered. The flights have to originate from a EU airport or be operated by a EU airline for EU261 to apply.
