    Hello There.

I'm looking to find the best TD in Dublin 6 (south) to help me deal with my housing crises, is it best to deal with a Fine Gael TD ? or has anybody got any help from any other TD in securing suitable accommodation when stuck in this housing crises ?

I've have had to move 5 times in 4 years due to increasing rent houses being sold ect,,,& now I live in a 14 x 6 damp dark kip of a bedsit in a basement with very little natural light ,I've got AiR B&B "guests" \ strangers coming & going all times of the day & night....partying banging on my door ect..it is a living nitemare....it has cause me to be very depressed....I know I'm not alone in being in this situation but I'm just looking for some help...

any help would be greatly appreciated ...im at the end of my rope with this. i have a social worker but he says there is very nothing he can do other than give me a letter...im on the housing list & I'm trying to make the best possible case to appeal to Dub city council for any type of housing...

If anybody could please share any information that could help me I would really appreciate it....

    Thanks in advance.....

    Yours sincerely

    ....Goodvibes.

I believe the waiting list for single people for social housing is 8-10 years in Dublin.

I can move your thread to the state benefits forum if you wish where you may get more advice?

Is living in Dublin worth that? Would you not look at social housing elsewhere in Ireland?

A TD cant do much to help other than send a letter on your behalf to attach to your file.
Which actually does nothing at all for you.

I speak from experience as a family with 2 young kids in cork, we went to 3 dif TD's when we almost became homeless twice because of rising rents and struggled to feed ourselves also.
It still got us nowhere. And even the TD's told us they could send letters till they were blue but with the lack of housing there is nothing they can do and thats with families getting housed over single people also.

Unfortunately the chances of a 1 bed apt comming up in dublin on the council is very slim and you wont be housed in anything bigger as that priority would then go to a family.

Can I ask you how long you are on the housing list?

Any chance you can share no?

Plenty of places in D6 in around 400 - 500 a month for a room.

Your not on your own but the houses/apartments are in proper living conditions.

Strangely enough they one beds come up regularly on the various choice based lettings systems in Dublin

Because of the damp in my flat I am constantly ill as I have asthma...this & the size of the flat causes me depression....its a viscous circle...this has had a real bad impact on my Physical & mental health.. I've been told to apply to DDC under medical grounds.- I've also been told by the DCC to get a letter from my GP stating this & I've also been told to get a letter from my social worker & a letter from a TD as this might help my case...

so the next question is has anybody applied for housing under medical grounds ?

Thanks again for all your help folks....its much appreciated.

Ps Re ; sharing ; I have tried sharing only to find the people I was sharing with were violent drug addicts. & i had to walk away leaving a deposit of 800 euros behind me or get my head kicked in !! ...so unless I know the people I wouldn't move in with strangers again......

You ocould apply under medical grounds and depending on weather its accepted or not it could def get you housed quicker. I applied for medical priority and was accepted on jan 19th of this year. (Now I also do have stage 2 cancer, that while we hope its curable its gonna leave me unmortgagable and unable to work for possibly the rest of my life, and has also severely impacted my mental health which was already fragile)
We had only been on the list a short time, 1.5years as we had just moved to a diff area and swapped lists. We were originally informed the wait was 6-10 years and more for our preferred area. But on recieving medical priority that dropped to 1-2 years depend ing on if anything new was built in our target areas.
Now we just got extremely lucky that 16 new houses were built about 6km from my sons schools (we currantly live over 25km along a dual carriageway away from them) So we just got the keys to our new home last week.

From what i gather there maybe diff levels of medical priority and in my case my family got the highest priorty as we had almost been homeless twice in the recent past and my husband is also between jobs right now and finding it very hard to pick up something new. And ofc the fact that I have a potentially terminal disease, the goal was to reduce my stress levels as much as possible to aid in healing.

The only snag you might hit is, in cork anyway, I was told medical priority would only be considered if I could provide a letter from a consultant, stating a specific diagnosis and reason for the medical priority. As I had provided a letter from my GP about 6 weeks previous stating I was suffering sever mental health issues relating to ongoing diagnosis for cancer, and I was told this wasnt good enough, that unless a specialist or consultant signed a letter ti wouldnt be considered.

Hi there, thanks for any info in advance,

I've a question... i'm a tenant & have rented 3 different flats from the same Landlord.. I'm unemployed at present. My Landlord has increased the rent twice & moved me twice , i was then moved without a written notice to a flat that I now now live in....its 6ft x 14 ft....its in a basement it's dark damp & its causing me serious depression.. I have lived in this flat for over 18 months...so I now have part 4 tenancy.... I have letters from my Gp a social worker & a councillor to prove the flat is causing me depression...I have asked my Landlord for move several times but he wont give me one & he wont give me a lease ...but he has relocated other tenants who are employed....my question is do I have grounds to bring a case against my Landlord for discrimination ?

    Thanks again ....
