Lost and Expired learner licence

    Some background

Received my learner permit in 2012 or 2013 with the cert of competency theory certificate in the same year. Learner license expired in 2014 or 2015 but I didn't really care enough to renew it as I didn't need to drive at the time. Between then and now I lost the licence... somewhere, possibly poland.

To renew the license, do I apply on rules of a renewal, which doesn't seem to care about the cert of competency theory certificate, or do I apply under "new license" since it entirely expired and I lost it, which does require a cert of competency theory certificate of less than 2 years old?

So if I'm reading this correctly, you have completed and passed your driving test? But didn't apply for your full driving license back in 2013?

If that is the case your cert of competency has expired and I'm almost certain you'll have to resit the test.

Before you do so you'll need to fill out form 201 and get it stamped by your local garda:

Best to ring to confirm dates. If it's over 5 years expired, you'll be starting from scratch.

First of all - you keep saying licence and are talking about a cert of competency, which is what they give you when you pass your driving test - are you talking about a learner permit or a full licence? Maybe it doesn't matter.

Assuming you had a learner permit that expired in 2014 or 2015, the only thing you'll need to provide to account for a lost learner permit (expired or otherwise) is to fill out the D201 app form as normal but declare your previous learner permit lost by way of having a Garda sign and stamp in the relevant section of the form.

Sorry, may not have made it clear, no, I just got the learner permit in 2012 or 2013, i.e., the green one rather than the pink one. I just did the theory test which gave me a certificate that I thought was titled "certificate of competence", that is, and had L plates up, without ever completing the practical test to get a full license. I see now that this certificate is titled "Theory Test Certificate" or something to that effect, apologies.

Cool, thanks, I had ended up with a D401 which may have resulted in me conflating the theory cert with the competence one.

I'll dig deeper into my record first but I wasn't aware 5 years was the limit, thanks

I may have been suggested myself into believing what I had was called something else, I just have a theory test pass cert. I am talking about the learner license for now, sorry.
