A man in northern China has been arrested on his wedding day after his wife's family realised that the 200 guests he invited from his side as family and friends were paid actors.

According to local media in Shaanxi province, the family of the wife, surnamed Liu, became suspicious during the conversations they were having with people from the groom's side who said they were "just friends" and not making clear how they knew him. When the ceremony started without any trace of the groom's parents, the game appeared to be up.

Pretty sure this was done on an episode of Kenan and Kel once. Kenan hired two actors to play his parents for a parent teacher meeting.

Indeed, a man hiring 200 people as fake guests at his wedding and a kids tv programme where two actors are hired to play Kenan's parents at a parent teacher meeting are one and the same thing.

Id say a lot of tv shows have involved some storyline where somebody was paid to impersonate another character on the show
don't see the major similarity between this story and what you're referring to..

Pretty amazing if he thoughts it would be believable.

The financee never met any of his friends.

"Ah, here's 200 of my friends along now, nothing suspiciuos here"

I still don't get how it's fraud as they're not anything to do with the marriage - he just wanted to seem more popular.

It's strange but, fraud is a bit overkill.

I dont understand why he invited 200 people as well like thats a huge number? Why not just 20 or so people who he could talk to a bit before and rehearse stories or something..?
It was just bound to fail with such large numbers of actors

It's a big country..bound to have a lot of friends.
Must be terrible trying to tell them apart though.

I was at a wedding abroad several years ago and one of the bride's friends asked me how long I had known the groom - I told her we had been friends since secondary school so since we were 13 or so.

She said that's great - it was good to know that there was no dark secrets being hidden if we were friends that long.

    Maybe he was hiding something.
