Am I being over-taxed?

    Hi,

So I recently started a new job about a month ago, in the IT dept. of a hospital if that matters, and I'm really not good at the finance side of things. On all of my paychecks I get charged the usual USC and then another tax simply listed as "tax". It's also quite a substantial amount - 20% last week.

It's not PRSI as that's listed as 0.00 but PAYE isn't listed anywhere so I'm fairly certain that's what it is but I've love confirmation. And if this is the case am I entitled to claim this back?

If it makes any difference I never called in to get my P45 from my previous job. Like I said I'm not very good at the finance side of things, so I apologise if I sound stupid.

Also, I apologise to the mods if this is in the wrong forum.

You may be on emergency tax, just call up Revenue and tell them your new employer and they'll update your credits.

Any over tax will be credited back in your next paycheck.

Brilliant, I'll look into that. Thanks for the quick reply.
