Interesting 4 year old hurdling race in the 5:20 at Balinrobe tomorrow. Former flat horse and market favourite Landsman showed in its last race that it might possibly have some sort of future over the jumps, on the other hand Tony's stable has struggled badly for two seasons now, and I am not sure I'd want to be relying on his maidener to win this. Sword Fighter (despite winning a listed race at Ascot and Curragh Cup) has shown nothing whatsoever and unless it's pulling up trees at home all of a sudden I cannot see why it's 4/1. Linger on the other hand has the highest handicap rating here, has already won three times over hurdles and was good to enough to go the Cheltenham (albeit the Fred Winter) where it pulled up lame. The Meade horse looks moderately interesting, but it'd need to improve a lot as well to beat Linger. Everything else looks at least a stone behind it.

So my thoughts are that the proven and more experienced Linger wins this, but will see if I can get a slightly better price than the 10/3 currently on offer.

Worst value of the day is surely Rufino at 7/2 in the 7:20? Winner of a low grade chase last time out, tomorrow it steps up in class, is 2lb out of the handicap and runs for a stable that literally has not strung together two wins in years. For me, William De Berlais which has a chase rating of a stone less than hurdle rating is the much more interesting bet at 6/1. Enda Bolger will have this jumping fences like a pro and all form points to this fella being a real Summer horse.

I like Sword Fighter today. 7/2 not my typical bet but he has been improving and will like good ground .

He was a serious fancy of mine for Fred winter .
