Bindweed

Bindweed, one of the most pervasive weeds over the last 10 years or so is giving me major headaches. I'm in the west of the country and with mild temperatures and constant rain it has become a major problem both in the garden, field edges and in Christmas tree plantations.
Glyphosate works to a point, but the bugger comes back x 10 the following year.
Any suggestions for lethal chemical control?
