Wondering how many liters of oil would be needed for an oil change? Tempted to buy myself and give to garage instead of them charging me. Also oil filters, is it easy to find the type needed for a particular car...is there lots of different kinds??

Depends on what car you drive, what sized engine etc, easiest way for you to learn is you tube. Type in your exact model of your car and what job you want to do and chances are you will find a video of someone showing you step by step of what you need and what to do. An oil change is nice and easy and is a good way to start off if you wanted to give it a go yourself

you'll save **** all buying oil and oil filters to give to garage to service your car.

Best way to save a few quid is to do it yourself. Buy some tools as you need them for jobs on the car and you'll tend to build up a nice collection over a few years that you will use a fair few times. Oil and filters changes are easy to do, but before doing it for the first time, google it and watch youtube clips of your car make/model of someone doing it. Take your time and make sure you've done it right.

You will need to know what spec oil to use and how much. Check your service book under specs and it will tell you how much of what type.

This is the DIY forum, you now have to do it yourself :D

Joke aside, it's pretty easy and takes maybe 30 mins. You'll save a bundle too.

Those who are handy, know what they're doing and have done it before find it easy.

With respect, the OP is struggling to grasp the fact that there are different filters for different cars - perhaps the garage is the answer. - it may be worth the peace of mind if other problems are identified.

It's hard / tricky for everyone the first time. These days, youtube videos for most stuff to show how. Like I said, pick up tools as you need them for certain jobs and over time you'll have a decent collection to keep you going.

Start off with a socket set that has a good selection of sizes. I've a €20 socket set from Lidl about 8 years ago and it's as good now as it was day 1. Keep an eye on halfords bargains thread and you'll find socket alerts galore! :)

A decent jack is always worth it as well and please if you are lifting the car, get a set of axle stands.
