    HI guys,

I got FTA installed a few years ago and i've been away for a year, so the tv has not been in operation. I arrived back recently and went to start up the Sat receiver box and it doens't appear to be working at all...could someone suggest to me what the problem may be and how to rectify it?

    Thanks for any replies.

You mean it's not powering on or, it gets so far, & then what? Any onscreen messages?

    Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion..however i don't think i can do a re-scan because of the fact the box is completely dead....

    Hello

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes.. the receiver box is completely dead...like it's not connected to the power supply..but it is...i've never had an issue with it previously...perhaps it has had it's life...

I assume the PSU isn't a separate item you can swap out?

Cheerrs agin, but i'm actually not at home this weekend so i can't check the model type..all i know is that it is a XERO model receiver box.

There is no power whatsoever...and the plug is a basic two pinned plug...with no way of opening to check a fuse ..like the normal three pinned plugs...

PSU=Power Supply Unit, sometimes built into the plug, sometimes contained within the device itself.

If it's just a skinny 2-pin plug & nothing else, then it will be contained within the receiver itself.

Ireland, like the UK, uses (fused) 3-pin plugs, though the 3rd (earth) connection seems only used in the likes of kitchen appliances nowadays.

Ireland, like the UK, specifies 3-pin plugs in its electrical regs ...

Yep...it's a really basic black slim two pinned pluy with nothing inside it...as in i can't open it like the three pinned plugs...

Oh...so it's a dodgy device to have in the house then?

Also..could i open the box and look for the fuse to replace it?

    Is it 'Xero' or 'Xoro'?

Anyhow, if it's not powering on, & there's nothing obvious like a broken wire, I'd just forget about it & get something else.

Don't really know about replaceable internal fuses, & can't really comment on the dodginess of such devices, but it's been noted here before that even equipment bearing 'CE' marks mightn't actually meet any kind of minimum standard ...

Never personally heard of any dangerous happenings.

Ooops!!! It's Xoro!!! sorry about that! i'm not at home this weekend and i was going on memory (bad)! lol

Ok..looks like i'll have to get a new receiver then...would most other receivers be compatible with the sat dish that i have? I don't know the name of that either!

Yeah, the Xoro was popular a while back, was probably sold with an adaptor for the plug.

Any satellite receiver will work with your dish, but just make sure it's not actually a combo receiver with a terrestrial aerial connected too, for the Irish channels, although maybe the TV itself provides this function.

My Xoro was a combi box receiver.....i'm pretty sure (but they never supplied an aerial for it)
