Samsung A5 or Oneplus 3T

Been looking for a new phone for a while now and can't decide on any.

Currently have the Oneplus One. Have looked at the new 3T and the A5. The A5 is 370 and the 3T 430, is it worth spending the extra €60?

My main uses are browsing, listening to music and take the odd picture so no real need for something powerful for the likes of playing games cause I don't really bother with them.

Anyone got any suggestions? The phone needs to NFC that's a must have. Have also looked at the MI5 and Lenovo P2. Some many phones it's head wrecking!

I would say the One T but that is my own personal opinion. Others may say the same or not. I do not know the specs of the A5 but I know the One T has a better processor more RAM and more storage .

    I have the A5 2017, Oneplus 3T and the P2 at the moment :)

P2 cheapest price- great phone, great screen and battery, midrange processor, body bit chunky for some (not me), zips through everything (I got mine for 240e on Adverts, it's about 300e + postage on Komplett) Dualsim

A5 2017 same-ish price new as OPT3 (maybe around the 300-340e box open on Adverts) - mid-range processor, nice looks, zippy enough, better camera than P2 & OPT3

OPT3 - outstanding value, great great phone and specs, secondhand between 370-420e I'd say depending on storage
    Dualsim

I'd sell my A5 before the other two and at end of day would probably keep the P2 for battery life alone

    This might make things easier...

On the face of it, a choice between a flagship and a mid-tier, mid-powered device should be a no-brainer. OTOH, if you really want one-handed, generally easy use, maybe go with the A5. Both phones have the same screen resolution (which is an admittedly considerable flaw for a phablet like the 3T, but it's been done to save battery life and tend towards high performance on benchmarks) but the A5 will have a better pixel density because it's smaller. In terms of OS, there's no way I'd pick TouchWiz (and its extra added network bloat, unless you buy the A5 off-contract) over Oxygen, and I've owned phones running both. (I currently have an OP3, and I'm not really inclined to go back to Samsung tbh.)

Both do have NFC, and the A5 has Samsung Pay, if that helps...

Besides that, the 3T has no SD card support, although it will come with at least twice the ROM of the A5, and you can use USB-OTG anyway. The A5 has more environmental protection, although it has a glass back rather than the 3T's metal unibody. in fact, the A5 looks a lot like the S7 (if you like that sort of thing), but without the full complement of bangs and whistles. so...yeah. I went with Oneplus because they were offering some impressive specs and nice (non-glass) materials at a good price, but the Samsung might be the more practical (albeit boring) choice tbh. up to you, though smile.png

Careful here. If its for Android Pay no stress, but for other applications there's a big schism between NXP and other brands so that some phones cannot see some cards.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and views. The A5 is currently €370 in komplette so that's why it ended up in the mix I wouldn't have even have considered it at its original price.

I was set at the start to get the 3T but a rethink of my actually needs, do I need a flagship phone or do I just want been a tech fan.

The P2 is a dark house! Price and battery seems great!

NFC is needed for the app I'm currently development so that's why that is a must.

Definitely the Oneplus 3T. Value for money can't be beat. Better specs then most of 2016 flagships, being that it has a Snapdragon 821 and 6gb of ram while most are still at 3/4gb. Seeing as it's only 60€ more it's definitely worth it. Phones with similar specs for example are around 650€+ (HTC 10 etc). Camera isn't the best, but it's definitely useable and has manual modes etc for you to mess about with. Dash charging is just great as well, 0-60% battery in half an hour, really saves you in certain situations.

    :)
