Robins, everywhere!

Has anyone else noticed an increase in Robin redbreasts this year?
Weirdly, we have loads of them in the garden, where usually we would occasionally see a solitary one they are arriving in threes and fours. Local park is the same. Wondering if it's just us or if anyone else is seeing them to?

Most birds give us a wide berth, (three cats!) but these guys are so brave they come right up to the house. They are lovely, but we keep chasing them away as it's not safe at our house!

I'm wondering if it's an indication they're nesting nearby... and when it's likely there will be fledglings if they are??

I've not seen a nest but, as Loki has been known to sometimes bring a bird home (though usually not the fast small birds) cats might have to be housebound for a bit when eggs are likely to be hatching.

I usually have one robin hanging around the house, the last few weeks I've noticed two together, not seem them together before.

The last few years we've had lots of pigeons in the trees and only a few small birds. This year though, they seem to have taken back control and there's quite a few robins, thrushes etc around. Found quite a few egg shells in the garden the last couple of weeks also.
We've also had one poor little bird(not sure what it's called, it's got some blue, yellow and grey on it) who thinks that his reflection in our wing mirrors is obviously very good looking and spends hours swinging out of them and pooping down the side of the cars!

The wife only said the same thing this morning when she was looking out the window. Would the mild winter we've had have anything to do with it?

Robins usually hate each other on sight and won't share a territory, except now when they're courting and raising their young.

That bird at the mirror sounds like a blue tit and isn't happy that another male is on his territory, and will keep attacking him til he clears off, which he cant, of course! I have the same problem with a wagtail, he drives himself crazy attacking my wing mirror and makes an awful mess!

Yeah, there's definitely more of them. I walk my dog down at the Dodder moat days and they're everywhere. I've noticed a lot more finches and tits too.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if it was a blue tit or not. Him attacking the mirror probably fits the behaviour more accurately now that you've mentioned it. He's like a demon when he gets going!

We have mirrors on the eaves that are meant to stop swallows nesting (fat chance) but there is one mirror that now seems to belong to a little fat sparrow. He has spent every day for the past few months visiting it and yelling at his own reflection. I kinda like him. 😊

Haven't noticed more Robins this year but we have hundreds of sparrows. I'd put it down to them stealing all the dog hair for their nests but a milder winter makes sense. 😂

Maybe it's because the spring is mild and we're out in the garden more? I've certainly noticed a couple of little spideoga hopping in under the trowel to investigate without the slightest fear.

Turn in you wing mirrors ;)
No more poop down the side of the car.

Lots of smaller birds around definitely.

I'm definitely going to try that..

There's a Robin in my back garden for the last few weeks that never seems to leave,it's constantly there on its own.

Last year there was one that just seemed to sit on the garage step for months, that one seemed old and was very fat but the one this year is tiny.TBH I was a bit freaked out because of the myth that a Robin signifies death but now I love seeing the one that's there this year...seems quite tame too as he doesn't fly off if I walk near him and he's well able to get his share of any food I throw out..the crows are more cautious of the Robin imo.
