Potential hiccup in sight - item signed for but not received by buyer

The week before last, I sold an item on eBay. It was bought by a guy in England who seemed to be giving me a work address. I sent it off by courier and thought no more of it. Thursday the buyer came back to me asking what day had I sent the parcel because there was no sign of it yet.

I got back to the courier and was told it was delivered on the 21st April and signed for. They gave me the name of the person who signed for it.

I've just mailed the buyer back giving them the details and the name of the person who signed for it, suggesting perhaps the package was delivered to the wrong building. Last year I bought something online and the courier left it into the wrong building in the complex where I work. The security guard in that particular building is a lazy sod and he just fecked it in a corner.

If he comes back to me and say he has never heard of this person, what should I do next? I've a bad feeling about it all at this stage.

You refund the buyer and then make a claim off the courier.

Who's the courier? The bigger outfits claiming should be ok but certain firms you can expect to pull teeth.

Nightline. It's not even that expensive an item but I feel annoyed that someone else might have it now. Or that I'm being scammed and the buyer got it after all.

Considering they went radio silent for 3 months at christmas because they got a little busy I wouldnt be holding my breath. After Fastway they'd be the courier with the worst track record IME.

Nightline can be a nightmare. Many of the drivers are on contract and are paid by delivery. In my experience of them.I have had the driver sign for my package and leave it anywhere. Bins, outside shops (because they do not sign for packages!)

They all are. Its totally franchised. Head office have no control over the drivers.
